2013 Canada Summer Games

Road Cycling Selection Policy

Competition Dates: August 11-17, 2013

Participants: 5 Female, 5 Male

Races: Time Trial, Criterium, Road Race

 

Eligibility Criteria

Long List (300%)

-All 2013 Cycling BC provincially carded athletes who meet Canada Summer Games (CSG) eligibility requirements are automatically entered into the long list pool

 

Short List (150%)

-Based on a combination of field testing (hill climb time trial, flat time trial) and racing at Barry’s Roubaix.

-Selection based on points system over the three events to rank riders. 8 female and 8 male riders will be chosen to the short list.

-Camp is self-funded, with Cycling BC providing timing and coaches to run each field test, and to watch Barry’s Roubaix.

Camp Dates: April 6-7, 2013

April 6 AM – Hill climb time trial at Simon Fraser University

April 6 PM – Flat time trial in Pitt Meadows

April 7 – Barry’s Roubaix. Male riders must be Cat 1-2 category; female riders must be in Cat 3-4 category. A separate points tally will be made for the CSG athletes within the overall category results.

Points System: Top 10 score points: 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

 

Final Team Selection

-The first two female and male team spots shall be discretionary, as chosen by the 2013 Canada Games Head Coach (or designate). These discretionary selections will take into account unforeseen events during the year (e.g. injury) that impeded the ability of an athlete to compete and/or attain results at the selection events listed below. Results at the 2013 Provincial and/or National Championships may also be taken into account as a basis of these discretionary selections.

The final three female and male spots will be selected based on results at the Mutual of Enumclaw Stage Race, May 18-19, 2013.

-A points system will be awarded over the three events to rank riders. 3 female and 3 male riders will be selected for the team based on overall points from this weekend, and will be added to points accumulated over the short list camp.

-Riders are expected to race with their trade team or club. Any rider without a club or team attending can contact Cycling BC for assistance.

-Male riders must be in Cat 1-2 category; female riders must be in Cat 3-4 category. A separate points tally will be made for the CSG athletes within the overall category results.

Points system: Top 6 score points: 15, 12, 10, 7, 5, 3.

Five athletes per gender, along with alternates will be named on July 3, 2013.

 

Alternate Athlete Selection:

– XX Alternates per gender will be ranked based on overall points based on results at the Mutual of Enumclaw Stage Race, May 18-19, 2013.

Final Team selection will be ratified by Cycling BC Road & Track Executive Committee, on or before XX date, 2013.

 

NOTES:

Selection to the 2013 Canada Summer Games Road Team does not guarantee Cycling BC AAP, and/or HP program funding.

Cycling BC reserves the right, in extenuating circumstances, to modify the 2013 Canada Summer Games Road Cycling Team Selection Criteria as it deems necessary where a criteria for selection event is no longer deemed appropriate. Extenuating circumstances may include, but are not limited to non-competitiveness of a selection event (eg. Road Race selection event on April 7th, 2013) In the event that the Selection Criteria is modified, Cycling BC will promptly post an announcement on its website announcing the changes.
