iRide @ BC Legislature

This past weekend Cycling BC’s iRide program participated in the rare opportunity to offer iRide at the BC Legislature during the Tour de Victoria. After a successful year in Victoria including six successful school programs, Cycling BC is excited to grow iRide’s presence on the island in 2017 and further support the wonderful work achieved by local youth clubs.

iRide Coordinator, Ben Chaddock reports:

This event provided iRide the opportunity to showcase our curriculum and engage with many new students from Victoria. Most of the children attending our iRide sessions this weekend were new to the program.  During the 25 minute sessions, riders tried the different iRide challenges and skills and received a Rocky Mountain Chocolate medal afterward.  The riders were excited to learn that iRide can visit them again at their school in 2017.

Cycling BC would like to thank the Tour de Victoria and the Government of British Columbia for making this opportunity available to iRide.  It was a privilege to access the BC Legislature and create a memorable experience for all our participants.  I believe it is important to get more kids out on bicycles, building confidence, skills and friendships in a safe and fun environment. I am optimistic that the BC Legislature’s vote of confidence helps iRide secure more grass field permits at future iRide events in British Columbia.

And thank you to Mariska Richters for joining us and taking these wonderful photographs!

iRide is now in search of interested Victoria schools for iRide 2017 spring campaign.  iRide’s school programs are designed to inspire and equip students with basic skills and provide a pathway to the excellent programs offered by Victoria youth clubs. These great programs include the School Bike League, the Fast-Track Program and Tripleshot Racing. If you are interested in helping us make cycling as accessible as possible to youth riders in Victoria, please contact iRide.
