PMBIA Instructors

In partnership with the Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association (PMBIA), Cycling BC now recognizes PMBIA certifications as meeting the requirements for a portion of Cycling BC’s Education & Development Pathways.

The partnership aims to create mentorship opportunities, celebrate our province’s sports experts, and connect our communities in ways that will help more people enjoy their cycling experience.

PMBIA and Cycling BC partnership highlights:

  • Acknowledgement of PMBIA certification
  • Letters of Support from Cycling BC
  • Grants for coaching courses
  • Cross-promotion of coach development opportunities
  • Discounts on coaching courses

Additional Support

Additional support services are available to Cycling BC members holding a PMBIA certification. See the tabs below for details.

PMBIA 1 instructors are encouraged to seek mentorship opportunities in their community by attending NCCP modules or other events (view calendar). In addition, if there is a professional development opportunity in your community that we can share with others, please let us know.

PMBIA-certified instructors are encouraged to log their credentials in the Coaches Association of Canada (CAC) LOCKER system. The PMBIA Level 1 course is recognized and provides 3 NCCP maintenance of certification credits. Although most helpful for leaders already holding NCCP certification, coaches in-training can record their PMBIA participation for future reference. Get started by creating a LOCKER account at thelocker.coach.ca, then contact Cycling BC with proof of certification.

If you are interested in further coach training, consider attending the second theory module of the Club-Certified (GREEN) pathway, called Training to Race.  This module is facilitated online and covers basic mental skills, building an annual skills/fitness plan, and taking a team to an event.

Cycling BC encourages all club assistant coaches supporting mountain bike athletes to pursue PMBIA Level 1 certification.

Cycling BC Club Assistant Coaches (YELLOW) who leverage our PMBIA partnership and bypass an NCCP outdoor module must maintain their PMBIA Level 1 certification. Complete the PMBIA Level 1 re-certification eLearning every 3 years to maintain your YELLOW certificate. Cycling BC encourages you to maintain your PMBIA annual membership through this time period, supporting PMBIA strategic goals and accessing their diversified membership benefits.

PMBIA 2 instructors are encouraged to seek mentorship opportunities in their community, and we invite them to audit the NCCP outdoor modules. Contact Cycling BC for a registration code to participate free of charge ($100 value).

The CAC’s LOCKER system also recognizes the PMBIA Level 2 certification and provides 3 NCCP maintenance of certification credits. Create an account and then contact Cycling BC with proof of certification.

PMBIA Level 2 instructors in good standing with the PMBIA may request a letter of support from Cycling BC to attend either of the following coach development opportunities:

  • Challenge the Club-Certified  (GREEN) pathway, officially called Competition-Introduction.
    • Learn more in the ‘provisions for special applicants’ section on our Become a Coach page.
  • Begin the Performance-Certified Pathway (BLUE).
    • Register at cyclingbc.net/edu
    • Complete multi-sport modules
    • Apply for Cycling Canada’s Performance Theory module (available once per year).

Cycling BC encourages all club-certified (GREEN) and performance coaches (BLUE) working with mountain bikers to pursue PMBIA Level 2 certification.

Cycling BC Club Assistant Coaches (YELLOW) who leverage our PMBIA partnership and bypass both NCCP outdoor modules (Basic Skills and Club Skills Mtn. Bike)  must maintain their PMBIA Level 2 certification. Complete the PMBIA Level 2 re-certification eLearning every 3 years to maintain your YELLOW certificate. Cycling BC encourages you to maintain your PMBIA annual membership through this time period, supporting PMBIA strategic goals and accessing their diversified membership benefits.

PMBIA 3 & 4 instructors are welcome to access the same opportunities as those with previous PMBIA certifications.
