SUMMARY:Prospera Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan
DESCRIPTION:RIDE HARD.\nSMILE OFTEN.\n\n\nThe 2018 Prospera Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan (PGAMO) is much more than an epic ride through the heart of British Columbia’s wine country. It’s an entire weekend of cycling camaraderie\, family activities\, Okanagan sunshine and regional delicacies. It’s an entire weekend of cycling\, family fun\, and Okanagan sunshine. \n\nTHE Granfondo Weekend features the Kids’ Piccolofondo\, Cycling Expo and much more. \n\nTHE RIDE\n\nSome cyclists will ride casually. Others will race. The beauty of the 2017 Prospera Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan (PGAMO) is that everyone will finish in Penticton with a smile on his/her face. All ride categories start at 7 a.m. on Sunday\, July 9th\, 2017 from Penticton’s Gyro Park (also the site of the Finish Area).\nVisit granfondoaxelmerckx.com to find out more about the routes.\n\nRIDE CATEGORIES\nSome cyclists will ride. Others will race. Either way the 2018 Prospera Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan (PGAMO) offers an epic cycling experience for all skill levels. One of the coolest features that sets the PGAMO apart from many other rides: all four ride categories start and finish from the same location – Penticton’s Gyro Park. \nRiders in all four categories (including Classe Speciale) receive the following: \n\nA fully supported and traffic-controlled ride on some of the most scenic roads in Western Canada.\nOfficial 2018 PGAMO “Ride Hard. Smile Often.” technical t-shirt.\nComplimentary digital super pack of personal event photos\, courtesy of Kal Tire.\nFull mechanical support throughout the duration of the ride provided by The Bike Barn and Velofix Mobile Bike ProShop.\nAid and medical stations along the route\, complete with food (Honey Stinger products\, SunRype\, fruit) and beverages (Ultima Replenisher and water).\nSecure bike parking during post-event celebrations.\nComplimentary barbeque for 2018 PGAMO riders.\nOfficial 2018 PGAMO swag\, including a custom Specialized item\, water bottle\, and more…\nPre- and post-event activities and entertainment for you and your family.\nA complimentary beverage at the Tree Brewing Peloton Patio upon completing your ride.\nFinal results will be posted by 10-year age categories.\nNEW FOR 2018: Group Purchase Program. For more details\, click HERE.\n\n\n\nGranfondo (160km)\nThe Granfondo category features more than 1\,600 m of elevation gain along the South Okanagan’s most scenic roads. The ride starts with a ride up Vancouver Hill\, rolls along the highway up to Summerland for the Velofix King of the Mountain (KOM) Challenge\, before proceeding back through Penticton and onto Oliver\, B.C. Riders should expect some fast\, flat sections alongside several lakes\, and rolling hills punctuated by some >7% pitches West of Oliver. The route continues through the White Lake Grasslands Protected Area – a beautiful\, remote area that’s home to White Lake (white mineral deposits precipitate from its waters during hot summer months)\, as well as the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (an internationally recognized facility for science and technology research related to radio astronomy). The Granfondo includes seven aid stations spaced roughly every 20 km\, and passes as many as 34 of Canada’s top wineries. \nIn the Granfondo category\, prizes will be awarded to the ‘top male team’\, ‘female team’ and ‘mixed team’. \nVelocefondo (126KM)\nOur newest ride category\, the Velocefondo (126 km) presents the ultimate stepping-stone for Cortofondo and Mediofondo riders looking for an additional challenge.\nSimilar to other categories\, this route travels through Penticton\, Summerland\, and Okanagan Falls. As the route enters the Oliver area\, Velocefondo riders will pass the Inkaneep Provincial Park and continue along Okanagan Highway before turning up the challenging Secrest Hill Road climb. The new section provides participants with one of the best “hidden” climbs in the South Okanagan. Secrest passes the entrance to Covert Farms before heading West and merging with Granfondo riders on Willowbrook Road. \nThis new Velocefondo intermediate distance originated from participant feedback from post-event surveys. \nMediofondo (92KM)\nThe Mediofondo presents a terrific challenge for recreational and advanced riders alike. If you think you’re too good for this distance\, think again – Eddy Merckx\, arguably the greatest cyclist of all time\, rode the Mediofondo category in 2011 and 2012. Similar to the Granfondo\, this 92 km route travels through Penticton\, Summerland and then South through to Okanagan Falls. The Mediofondo features more than 500 m of climbing\, including uphill efforts on Vancouver Hill\, Peach Orchard Road (aka Velofix King of the Mountain (KOM) Challenge)\, Vancouver Hill and McLean Creek Road. This category includes three aid stations\, and\, of course\, full mechanical support throughout the entire ride. \nCortofondo (55KM)\nThe Cortofondo category is the perfect starter distance for those new to cycling or returning to the sport after several years off the saddle. Just like the Mediofondo and Granfondo categories\, the Cortofondo route begins on Penticton’s Main Street\, near Lake Okanagan and adjacent to Gyro Park. Riders in this category will travel through Penticton\, before heading North to Summerland along a flat\, traffic-controlled highway section. This route includes two hills – one at the start (Vancouver Hill)\, and the Velofix King of the Mountain (KOM) Challenge in Summerland\, B.C. – and includes two aid stations along the way.

SUMMARY:Gibsons Grind Gran Fondo 2018
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, June 23th\, 2018\, for the 6th annual Gibsons Grind Granfondo on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia\, Canada. \nThis cycling event provides scenic routes through the Sunshine Coast with event lengths that will appeal to all riders. All rides start at the Langdale ferry terminal and end at Persephone Brewery Company for a bbq. From there it’s a short downhill ride back to the Langdale ferry terminal. \nStart: The ride starts at the overflow parking lot at the Langdale ferry terminal.  Locals that need to drive to the start can park their cars along Chamberlain Road adjacent to Shirley Macey Park (very close to where the ride finishes) and coast down to the ferry terminal.  See the following link for details:   SSC Gibsons Grind Start \nStart Time:  9:30 am.    Note:  As there will be people coming from the Lower Mainland on the 8:30 ferry there may be a small delay if the ferry is late. \nThe Routes: The Gibsons Grind is a self paced ride that takes place on paved roads. It starts at the Langdale ferry terminal in Gibsons and winds its way to Highway 101. From there the only difference between the various courses is how far they go out the highway.  As such\, you could do your own custom route that is anywhere from 10 km on up.  Once you are on the highway\, you can turn around any time you like. The routes will be marked with color coded arrows for each route length. \nRefreshment Stations:  We will have a refreshment/aid station in Davis Bay at the turnaround point for the 50 km ride as well as on Mason Road near the turnaround for the 70 km route and on Redroofs Road near the turnaround point for the 110 km ride.  You can fill up your water bottles and get a bar. \nRiding on The Coast is difficult: The full route is comparable to the RBC GranFondo Whistler.  There are a lot of hills here\, some quite long and steep.  Make sure you choose the course length which suits your ability before taking on the Gibsons Grind.  The winners of the Gibsons Grind are the people who have the most fun. \nCourse Information\n(Click links for detailed route information)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n110 KM ROUTE \n\n\nAt 110 km\, it has over 1700 meters of climbing (comparable to the RBC GranFondo Whistler)\n\n\n\n\n70 KM ROUTE \n\n\nWhile it’s actually only 21 km longer than the 50 km course\, it’s significantly harder.  That extra 21 km includes 369 meters of extra climbing\,\n\n\n\n\n50 KM ROUTE \n\n\nThe 50 km course is quite moderate.  The turnaround point is at scenic Davis Bay\, where you might just want to stop and dip your feet in the ocean that is so temptingly close\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nFor more information\, go to: http://www.gibsonsgrindgranfondo.com/
