SUMMARY:Hougen East Road Race
DESCRIPTION:Race Course: Hougen East RR\n  \nRoad racing returns to Beautiful British Columbia on Saturday\, February 27. While many consider it “just training races\,” the Spring Series consistently offers some of the hardest fought competition of the entire year. This year as a bonus\, many Sunday dates will feature a time trial in the afternoon. \nCost\nAdults\, $34 pre-reg (cut-off is 23:59 Wednesday before each race weekend) or $40 day-of. Juniors\, $20. TT: +$10 with the road race\, or $20 for TT only. First-race bib fee: $10\, covers you for Spring Series and WTNC races. \nWhat’s Required\nCycling BC Provincial Race License\, USCF\, or any UCI license (Register for your Cycling BC Provincial or UCI license here) \nRace Categories\n\n\n\n\nCategory\n\n\nStart time\n\n\nDistance\n(km)\n\n\nDuration\n(hh:mm)\n\n\nCategories\n\n\n\n\n\nA Group\n\n10:30 am\n120-130\n3:00-3:30\nMen Cat 1 / 2\n\n\n\nB Group\n\n10:33 am\n80-110\n2:30-3:00\nM Cat 3\, W Cat 1 / 2\n\n\n\nC Group\n\n10:36 am\n55-70\n2:00-2:15\nM Cat 4\, W Cat 3\n\n\n\nD Group\n\n12:30 pm\n30-40\n1:30-1:50\nM Cat 5\, W Cat 4\n\n\n\nLearn to Race\n\n11:00 am\nN/A\n2:00\nNever Road Raced? Start Here!\n\n\n\nRiders are expected to race their categories\, but requests to race up or down a level can be made to the organizers. We reserve the right to reseed riders at our discretion\, too. Junior (under-19) racers will be seeded into ability-appropriate categories. \n\nSome Rules to Remember\n  \n1. Fenders must be removed for racing at Spring Series.\n2. There is no free lap rule for mechanicals.\nIf you do suffer a mechanical and sit out a lap you will be allowed to re-enter the race in the main group or any group behind the main group at the discretion of the race organizer. In this situation you will be allowed to finish out the race but must not impact the outcome of the race in any way. Should this occur you as well as your entire team/club will be disqualified from that race. This rule will be strictly enforced. \n3. Center Line Rule\nAny rider who intentionally rides on the left side of the centre line is in violation of the centre line rule. \nYou must also stay to the right of the cones in the middle of the road along the course. Cones will used to delineate the acceptable lines in all corners and in any curves with limited visibility. \nPlease remember that the races are run on open roads and there will be oncoming traffic in the other lane. Crossing the yellow line or beyond the cones is exceptionally dangerous to both yourself and the other people you are racing with. \nThe only times that is it acceptable to break this rule is when a rider is pushed over the centre line by riders beside them (and re-enters without gaining advantage). \nIf you are observed violating the centre line rule you will be pulled from the race and receive a Yellow Card. A Yellow Card may also be issued if multiple riders state that one individual has crossed broken the centre line rule. If a rider with a Yellow Card is observed to violate the centre line rule they will be expelled from all remaining Spring Series races. \n4. Keep your bib & chip\nYou will get a new race number (“bib”) at your first race\, and you will keep it for use in Escape Velocity races throughout the year. If you don’t have one from 2015\, you will also get a timing chip. Bring them each time you race: replacement numbers cost $5; replacement tags cost $2. (Protip: timing chips will not survive a car trip on your bike rack; remove them before you drive off\, or the wind will remove it for you) \n5. Be Nice\n\nPlease be courteous and respectful to vehicles and residents\, if they complain we will not be able to use this course.\nPlease use the washrooms provided.\nTake your litter with you: this includes not tossing mid-race gel wrappers on the ground. Tuck it back in your pocket. Retrieve your bottles\, too.\nOffensive Language\, whether directed at passers-by\, fellow racers\, officials\, or yourself\, is not acceptable.\n\nAny of these offences are grounds for disqualification and banning from future Escape Velocity races. \n

SUMMARY:Island Cup XC: Hammerfest
DESCRIPTION:Not wanting to upset the apple cart too much\, this years XC race will be the usual HammerFest loamy run with a good bunch of roots thrown in for free. A few good descents and some fun climbs. A shorter lap distance of only 7.2 km was designed this year. (You can thank us after the race.) \nAs in previous years\, registration will start at 10 am. in the Provincial Park. A rolling start from the registration/parking area with actual racing commencing at 12:00 noon on the gravel road near the Park maintenance compound. \nFollowing the old road out of the Park\, racers will drop into and through the gravel pit to take a right hand branch road to the Pit2Pit trail. This dumps you out onto another road that you cross onto more trails that lead to Just Groovy. Crossing over a small bridge\, hang a left onto\nBarf Bag. A right connector brings you to another right turn and a small section of Coquihalla\, followed by a left onto an old road. A short stretch of this brings you to a another left onto Locomotion and upwards. Eventually\, a right turn onto a double track takes you to one more right onto Jughead and the fun begins. Follow Jughead to an intersection and right turn with Outback. A short section of this and a left hand turn back onto another portion Locomotion. \nFrom here it is all straight going to the finish/lap point.

Good parking and facilities. \nRegistration includes an awesome wood fired pizza and drink at the finish line. \nA new timing system will be used for this year’s race whereby racers will wear a wrist strap that needs to be scanned at the beginning and end of the timed descents.

Community Cycling Initiation (CCI) is the NCCP context for coaches who will primarily work with novice\, pre-competitive cyclists at the community level\, including participants in the Active Start\, FUNdamentals and early Learn to Train stages of athlete development (outlined in Cycling Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Model).
