SUMMARY:BC Youth (Road\, Criterium\, Time Trial) Championships: 2018 Hayman Classic
DESCRIPTION:We are honored to again host the 2018 BC Youth Cycling Championships. The first British Columbia finishers in Stages 1\, 3 & 4 will be crowned BC Champions for the Time Trial\, Criterium and Road Race.\n\nThe 2018 Edition of the Hayman Classic promises to be a truly special event. \nComprised of four races over three days\, it stands almost alone on a yearly cycling calendar that caters overwhelmingly to adults. What makes the Hayman Classic distinctive is that it is open only to young cyclists\, meaning those aged 13 to 19. \nMore than that\, the races are designed to give them a European-style experience of riding in groups or alone over courses that challenge their skill\, strength and stamina against top juniors from British Columbia\, Canada and the United States. For coaches and trainers\, it’s a chance to take the measure of the next generation of cyclists. \nFor Ron Hayman\, the former Olympian and pro racer behind the Hayman Classic\, it’s an opportunity to nurture and encourage young riders\, but more important to give them a chance to compete\, to have a “real-world experience\,” as he puts it. Too often\, he says\, young riders devote hours and hours to training but rarely if ever have the chance to succeed – and fail and learn – from a hard-fought race. The Hayman Classic helps to fill that void. \n width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"> \nThe 2018 Hayman Classic Promo from Chris Stenberg on Vimeo. \nKey points of the competition: \n* Morning of Friday\, May 25. The first event is a time trial in which riders compete to have the fastest time over a set course\, which in this case runs over some 11 kilometres from Okanagan Falls to the parking lot at Painted Rock Winery. The final section up Smythe Road to Painted Rock features stinging grades of 16 to 18 per cent. \n* Afternoon of Friday\, May 25. The second event is a multi-lap circuit race around the track at Area 27\, Canada’s hot new motorsport speedway southeast of Oliver. Nestled among vineyards and hills\, this track dips\, rolls and climbs over 4.8 kilometres of impeccable asphalt – no potholes here. Area 27 was used last year for the first time by the Hayman Classic. It garnered rave reviews from cyclists. \n* Morning of May 26. In this event\, riders will compete in a criterium on Riverside Drive in Penticton.  A criterium is a race in which riders are repeatedly challenged by tight turns over multiple laps of a fixed course. The turns are a true test of a rider’s ability to brake and accelerate around corners in a pack and at high speed. \n* Morning of May 27. In the final event of the competition\, riders will take part in a road race over multiple laps of a course with punishing climbs and sharp descents through and around Oliver. \n* There will be winners in each of these four events. But one of the special features of the Hayman Classic is that it is also a stage race\, meaning the finishing times in the four events are added together to give each rider an overall time for the full competition\, and the best of these will also be honoured. \n* This year\, for the first time in its four-year history\, the Hayman Classic has been added to the national junior race calendar. This is a significant development for the Classic which can now boast of being one of only three events on the junior national race calendar. The others are the Tour de la Releve in Rimouski\, Que. and the national championships. \n\nCycling Canada Talent ID Camp at Hayman Classic 2018 \nCycling Canada would like to invite riders taking part in the 2018 Hayman Classic to stay for an extra two days for a Talent ID Camp with National Coach Kevin Field. This is an opportunity for athletes to stand out and be recognized for their talent as well as to learn more about what it takes to get to the national level. The Cycling Canada Road Talent ID Camp will run from Sunday\, May 27\, after the Hayman Classic event and will wrap up on the afternoon of Tuesday\, May 29. MORE INFO

SUMMARY:Para Cycling Talent ID Camp
DESCRIPTION:Cycling Canada in conjunction with Cycling BC is excited to announce it will be hosting a Para Cycling Identification Camp in Vancouver June 1st and 2nd.\n\nThe camp will provide athletes interested in competitive Para sport the opportunity to give cycling a try. The purpose of this camp is to find our next para-cycling talent to build the next generation of Canadian para-cyclists. \nPara Cycling is open to athletes with physical and visual disabilities of 14 years and older. Competitions include road events such as the Individual Time Trial\, Road Race and Track events; Pursuit\, Sprint\, 1 km and 500m Individual Time Trial. Competitors are placed into 4 broad categories with separate events for each discipline. A basic overview of each category is described below: \nHand Bike: Hand bikes are divided into 5 sub-categories based on the type of lower limb impairment: H1\, H2\, H3\, H4\, H5.  Hand bikes are operated using hand controls and compete only in road events. \nTandem: Athletes who are visually impaired or blind compete on a tandem bicycle with a sighted pilot. Tandems compete in both track and road events.\n\nTricycles:  Tricycles are divided into 2 sub-categories based on an impairment that affects balance: T1\, T2.  Athletes compete with three-wheeled bicycles that provide better stability.  Tricycles compete in only road events. \nStandard Bicycle: Standard bicycles are divided into 5 sub Categories: C1\, C2\, C3\, C4\, C5. Athletes are categorized by physical impairments that prevent them from competing in able-body events but still enable them to compete using an upright bicycle. Athletes compete in both track and road events. \nThe camp will start Friday\, June 1\, in the afternoon with an information session on para-cycling and testing at Fortius Sport and Health in Burnaby\, BC.  On Saturday\, athletes will be set up on bikes and will take part in a cycling skills session as well as a short ride in the Vancouver area. Cycling coaches will be on hand to help athletes get fitted on bikes. \nBicycles are available through Cycling Canada if athletes do not have their own. Athletes are required to bring their own athletic wear and cycling helmet to attend the Saturday on-bike sessions. \nAthletes interested in attending the camp should contact Phil Abbott at phil.abbott@cyclingcanada.ca no later than May 25th. \n  \n

It is not defined by the uniform you wear\, or where you go to work. It can effect the mother\, the father\, the child\, the veteran\, the first responder\, the extended family\, friends\, co-workers…anyone can suffer with post traumatic stress. Together we can support one another and make a difference. We can shine a light on PTSD\, support the community and raise funds and awareness to help others. \nVisit https://www.lightonptsd.com/ for more information.

SUMMARY:Sp’akw’us 50 - BC Premier XCM Series
DESCRIPTION:2018 Race Results \nIt’s all about the trails. \nLast year was the start of a new era in Squamish mountain bike racing with the end of the Test of Metal race series\, and the introduction of the Sp’akw’us 50 technical XC marathon to the calendar of renowned races on Squamish’s spectacular trails. \nThe inaugural Sp’akw’us 50 sold out all 600 entries in its first year. \nFor 2018 we have taken the fun to a new level by announcing a 2-Day Stage Race called The Sp’akw’us Challenge. The Sp’akw’us Challenge will consist of the Sp’akw’us 50 (Saturday\, June 16\, as part of the BC Premier Series) and the Sp’akw’us 35 (Sunday\, June 17). \nBoth events can be ridden separately as a 1 Day Event\, or combined for an even greater Challenge. The Spakwus 50 (BC Premier Series) will be a similar course to last year\, with the Spakwus 35 being held on different but equally enjoyable trails. \nBecause what’s more fun than 50km of Squamish singletrack? Even more kilometres of Squamish singletrack. \nThe expanded race offerings provide something for everyone.  One day enough? Enjoy a race suited to your interest and ability level with the 50 km or 35 km options. Come for the one-day race\, stay for the 2-day party. But for those of you who want more\, test your grit in the 2-day Challenge. \nRegistration Details\nRegistration for all events will open on January 15\, 2018 at 6 pm. \nRegistration for the Sp’akw’us is open to all riders\, both recreational and licensed. Placings for this event will be awarded in order of finish per category regardless of whether or not that rider is a Cycling BC member. The BC Premiere XCM Series and the BC XCM Championships eligibility is outlined below. \n-IMPORTANT INFORMATION- Only those individuals with a valid Cycling BC Licence will have their points tallied for the BC Premiere XCM Series and the BC XCM Championships. If you feel that you want to compete in the series or for the championship title then please get your 2018 Cycling BC Race License. \n  \nRace Details \nExact course details to come\, but you can expect our same amazing venue\, a kid’s race\, awards ceremony\, dinner\, and after party for racers and volunteers. \nSp’akw’us means Bald Eagle in the Squamish Nation language\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh\, and symbolizes the majestic beauty unique to Squamish.  The rich history of mountain bike racing in Squamish will continue to be a foundation of the region\, as are the bald eagles that grace our skies\, trees and rivers. \n
