SUMMARY:Cancelled - GranFondo Axel Merckx
DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions in the region.  \nJoin us on Sunday\, September 19th\, 2021\, for the 10th Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan (GFAMO) in Penticton\, British Columbia\, Canada.\n \nThis mass cycling event ranks as one of North America’s premier cycling events that attracts recreational\, elite and pro cyclists for an epic weekend of road cycling in the heart of British Columbia’s Okanagan wine country. Cyclists can choose from one of three distances with each distance starting and finishing in Penticton. For 2021\, the event will adhere to strict “COVID-19 safe” protocols that are compliant with the intent of the provincial health order. \n  \nSome cyclists will ride casually. Others will race. The beauty of the Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan (GFAMO) is that everyone will finish in Penticton with a smile on his/her face. For 2021\, choose from one of three distance categories – Granfondo\, Mediofondo and Cortofondo (all distances at this point are approximate). \nGranFondo – 160km \nMedioFondo – 92km \nCortoFondo – 55km

SUMMARY:Burnt Bridge Gravel Fondo
DESCRIPTION:BURNT BRIDGE as part of the Cowichan Valley Regional District\, is the host region for one of the most anticipated mass participation cycling events in BC. On September 25\, hundreds of participants will take to the exclusive gravel roads of the Cowichan Valley in the 3rd Annual BURNT BRIDGE CLASSIC GRAVEL FONDO. Launching from fabled BURNT BRIDGE\, cycling enthusiasts of various age groups and abilities will tackle 76km of remote challenging terrain consisting of long steep climbs\, twisty descents\, and breathtaking views. \nWHAT IS A GRAVEL FONDO? \n“Imagine pedaling over jagged marbles\, sand\, or if it rains\, through chunky peanut butter. In some places\, gravel roads are like rutted\, bone-jarring washboards. Think of the worst piece of asphalt you’ve ever ridden.” \nGravel Fondo’s are mass participation (individual timed event for 2020) cycling adventure rides that take place usually on exclusive gravel roads away from city roads and busy highways. It allows people to ride at their own pace\, enjoy nature\, and share their experiences with family and friends. \nAlthough Gravel Fondo’s offer some support\, They emphasize self reliance and feature few amenities. Riders need to be technically savvy and bring any gear they might need to replace or fix tires\, chains\, or any other possible pitfalls.
