SUMMARY:BC Cyclocross Championships
DESCRIPTION:***REGISTER NOW***\nVictoria is pleased to host the 2018 Cyclocross (CX) Provincial Championships on Sunday\, November 18th at Western Speedway presented by Broad Street Cycles and Shimano. \nBookending a weekend of bike racing on Vancouver Island\, the 2018 CX Provincial Championships offers an opportunity to line up with the best in BC and vie for a championship jersey. As day two of a duo of race days at Western Speedway – Victoria’s perennial mudfest CX venue – the provincial championships on Sunday will offer an updated version of Saturday’s Cross on the Rock course. Come for the weekend and explore the gritty side of Victoria: mud\, gravel\, and grime on a motorsport racing track. \nBattling it out for a provincial podium\, racers will have the opportunity to compete in Youth\, Junior\, Elite and Masters categories throughout the day – a Cycling BC Provincial Race or UCI licence required. \nHolding a Cycling BC Provincial Ride Licence\, or still rolling as an unlicensed racer? Register for the Open Men and Open Women’s categories held that same day (One-day event licences will be available for ‘Open’ categories only). \nThe fight for a men’s and women’s singlespeed CX title will be one of the most closely watched on the day\, with racers struggling through slop with only one gear. \nAll the event details will be available at www.broadstcycles.ca/2018-bc-c x-provincial-champs/ \nTech guide: http://www.broadstcycles.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/CX-Provincials-Tech-Guide.pdf/ \nCall up order https://ccnbikes.com/#!/results/page/88-2018-cx-provincial-call-ups/ \nCycling BC Cyclocross Provincial Championship Call-up procedure \n1. Start grid make up\n1.1 Start grid will be UCI compliant 8 riders wide.\n1.2 Grid positions will be allocated to each region based on 2017 event participation numbers.\n1.3 Grid position will then be assigned to riders based on their regional ranking.\n1.4 3 spots on the first row of the grid will be reserved for 2017 Provincial Championship podium. \n2. Rankings\n2.1 Each region (Island\, Lower Mainland & Interior) will be responsible for reporting their regional ranking to Cycling BC one week before the Provincial Championship race date.\n2.2 Cycling BC will publish the start grid 48 hours before race start. Available on Cyclingbc.net\, facebook etc.\n2.3 The #1 ranked rider in each region will be assigned to top grid positions and so on.\n2.4 Only riders competing in the upper most competitive categories will be included. In other words\, only riders in Expert\, A group\, Elite\, Master A etc are counted. For example\, if you are a men’s master 30-39 but competing in novice\, intermediate\, or master B you will not be included and will be assigned a grid position at random at the back. On the other hand\, a Cat 3 racer who races the whole season in Elite/Expert will earn their rank in the Elite category.\n2.5 Masters 30-39 racers competing in the uppermost race categories will be assigned grid position based on their rank as it relates to other 30-39 racers. For example\, if you are ranked 10th in LMCX\, but riders ranked 1st through 9th are licensed elite/juniors etc\, the you are effectively ranked 1st in 30-39 in your region.\n2.6 If a rider is ranked in two or more series\, the higher rank will be used. For example\, if a rider is ranked 2nd in interior cross rankings but ranked 10th in LMCX\, they will be assigned grid position ICX #2.\n2.7 If a rider races in a category that is not their own as designated on their license they forfeit their call up position in their licensed category at Provincials. For example\, if a master racer “races up” in Elite/Expert\, they do not receive a grid position in masters.\n2.7.1 An exception for call up rule 2.7 will be made for Junior and Youth racers racing up in Elite/Expert and earning a rank in the top 20% of riders\n2.8 Riders from outside BC with no ranking are not assigned a start grid position. \n2018 BC CX PROVINCIAL START GRID Call up

SUMMARY:Cycling BC Road Commissaire 'C' Course & Race Technology training
DESCRIPTION:Want to become involved in Cycling in a new way? Become a Cycling BC Commissaire! \nBecoming a cycling commissaire is an excellent way for racers and enthusiasts to gain a deeper understanding of cycling and broaden their involvement in the sport they love. As a commissaire\, you are able to represent Cycling BC as a trained professional to ensure fair and safe competition. There are opportunities for paid travel and advancement from provincial to national and international certification. \nWhile many course participants will go on to train under the supervision of an experienced national commissaire\, others might choose to take the course simply to augment their knowledge of the sport and to develop as a coach\, team manager\, or race organizer. All our welcome! \nProspective commissaires should be IT literate\, in order to complete administration functions and interact with race technology. Strong communication skills are needed in order to enable prompt exchanges\, provide clear instructions and give honest feedback. \nThis introductory 2-day course is for those looking to know more about road cycling officiating and race technology. The course will cover the rules\, teach you how to read a license\, handle registration\, provide information about start/finish procedures\, manual timing and much more. At the conclusion of the course\, you will have a greater understanding of the role of a commissaire\, increased knowledge of the road specific rules and individual events as well as understand how to progress through the ranks from a level C trainee to an international commissaire \nRace Technology \nAdditionally\, Cycling BC will be partnering with Escape Velocity Cycling Club in order to provide race technology training for participants. The race technology subsection of this course will be delivered from 3pm onward on Sunday\, January 27. It is available for free to existing commissaire who wish to learn more about how modern computer technology can be used to supplement the registration\, lap count\, rider count and finish order of races. \nRaceDB is a CMS (Content Management System) designed to support cycling events. Specifically it allows for easy implementations of competitions. Competitions have events. Events have participants. All of these are tracked and managed to allow for efficient registration of participants\, generation of documents (e.g. bib numbers and frame plate labels)\, start lists and most importantly the files required to run the race with CrossMgr. \nCrossMgr is a race management system. It tracks participants in a bike race using RFID technology to record when they pass through the finish line. All of the traditional race management records are maintained (e.g. passings\, per lap times) and results are generated. While CrossMgr does have timing as a sub-component of what it does\, it is important to understand that it subsumes most of the other record keeping done. CrossMgr was designed and built by a cycling commissaire (Ed Sitarski\, Head Road Commissaire Ontario)\, using his experience as a commissaire. \nTopics covered will include: \n\nUsing RaceDB at registration as part of checking licenses and assigning numbers\nCommissaire and technology operator collaboration on rider counts\, number collection\, and manual confirmation of finish order\nAutomatic lap board drops in a predicative manner. Works based on estimated lap times set after the first lap.\n\n  \nNewly trained officials will be able to participate in Cycling BC’s mentorship program\, including mentorship throughout Escape Velocity’s Spring Series throughout March and April. This will provide an opportunity to put into practice the theory and skills learned at the course\, under the supervision of experienced commissaires over the course of the 2019 season to complete their level C certification. \nTo register: https://ccnbikes.com/#!/events/5769-cycling-bc-road-commissaire-c-course-race-technology-training\nFor more information contact Cory Ostertag – cory@cyclingbc.net
