DESCRIPTION:About Cycle Around Richmond \n STEM education is passionate about unleashing the potential of young people so they can lead fulfilling lives and have a positive impact on the world around them. \nSTEM is an abbreviation for Science\, Technology\, Engineering and Math.   Our goal is to bridge the gap between ability and opportunity by providing state of the art education both locally and around the world. \nCycle Around Richmond is a ride promoting STEM education and is co-sponsored by ORT and the Richmond Jewish Day school. \nEach rider or family is encouraged to raise $200 in pledges.  You may wish to create a fund raising page when you register so you can easily track how you are doing in fulfilling your pledge.  You can add your own thoughts and messages and invite your friends to participate. \nTwo route options are being offered: \nLeisure Ride 36 KM\nFull Distance 72 KM \nRegistration fee is Individual Rider $36. Designed for adult riders (including parents!) and youth club participants aged 12+\, the program provides an opportunity for cyclocross and gravel enthusiasts to improve their skills and build fitness at various locations on Sundays in late August. \nThe Learn to Ride clinics will cover skills such as cornering\, braking\, terrain management\, dismounts for barriers and runups\, and navigating ruts and soft-terrain. The clinics will be led by NCCP Certified Coach\, Ben Chaddock\, Cycling BC’s Head of Coach Development and iRide Program Manager.  He will be joined by 3x Canadian National Cyclocross Champion\, Michael van den Ham\, and Canada’s longest-standing member of the Mountain Bike National Team\, Sandra Walter. \nThere are a total of 27 spots available each session (updated July 29)\, with 3 groups of 9 athletes per coach. \n\nLearn-to-Ride 1      (Beginner & Intermediate)       (12+ & adults\, 1+ race seasons)  (9 spots)\nLearn-to-Ride 2     (Intermediate  & Advanced)     (14+ & adults\, 2+ race seasons) (18 spots)\n\nEach session will include a coached skills clinic (9:30 am – 11:30 am) using the groupings above\, followed by a guided fitness ride (12:30 pm – 2:30 pm) using 2-3 speed-based groups. The clinics are scheduled to take place at the following times and locations\, and feature the below skills: \n\nAug 16th – Heritage Park\, Mission  (MAP)                                               – Cornering & Braking\nAug 23rd – Clearbrook Park\, Abbotsford (MAP)                                     – Terrain & Barriers\nAug 30th – Clearbrook Park\, Abbotsford (MAP) (updated Aug 24)    – Ruts & Runups\n\nGroup rides will be less structured and optional for participants. SUMMARY:NCCP: Basic Skills
DESCRIPTION:Basic Skills\nThis module is officially titled: NCCP Ready to Race! Introduction to Competition Basic Cycling Skills in the Coaches Association of Canada LOCKER system but is included in both the Community and Comp-Intro context. \nThis outdoor skills module helps you practice teaching basic cycling skills for participants in the “Active Start”\, “FUNdamentals”\, “Learn to Train”\, and “Train to Train” stages of the Long Term Athlete Development Model. \nThe module builds on the concepts covered in the pre-requisites and takes place at a local grass or gravel field. To pass the module\, participants must prepare a lesson plan and be ready to teach two 10-minute skill sessions to other coaches in training. This activity is included in question 43 of the Community Coach Journal\, or question 52 Club Coach Journal. \nAfter completing this module and all remaining SafeSport pre-requisites\, you may continue your training as an iRide Instructor or as Club Assistant Coach. \nThis particular event is organized and facilitated by Cycling BC. \nPre-Requisites: \n\nCommunity Theory or Club Theory A\n\nThe pathway includes additional on-demand and facilitated SafeSport modules that are required to lead Cycling BC practices and clinics. Oh\, and maybe a few hike-a-bike sections to keep it legit. \nFeaturing: The Highlands. Hartland Mountain Bike Park. Vancouver Island Tech Park. Francis King & Thetis Lake Regional Parks. Private property that owners are opening up for this one day. Short and long course options. \nWorried about how much energy you’ll expend? We’ll keep you fuelled along the route! And when you’re done\, you can relax with food and a bevvie as you recharge sitting at tables with classy white tablecloths and flower arrangements and exchange stories with your muddy teammates! \nThis event is a fundraiser for the Tripleshot Cycling Club youth racing team and will support the development of year-round training for 11-18 year olds who train hard and love to compete in cross\, road\, track and mountain bike at local\, provincial\, national and international levels. Since 2016\, thanks to the generous donations of the participants\, we have been able to donate $7\,850 of the funds raised to support the South Vancouver Island Nature Trail Society and the South Island Mountain Bike Society\, two hard-working not-for-profits that work to connect and build trail systems for all to enjoy.
