This activity is included in question 43 of the Community Coach Journal\, or question 52 Club Coach Journal. \nAfter completing this module and all remaining SafeSport pre-requisites\, you may continue your training as an iRide Instructor or as Club Assistant Coach. \nThis particular event is organized and facilitated by Cycling BC. \nPre-Requisites: \n\nCommunity Theory or Club Theory A\n\nThe pathway includes additional on-demand and facilitated SafeSport modules that are required to lead Cycling BC practices and clinics. DESCRIPTION:Becoming a cycling commissaire is an excellent way for racers and enthusiasts to gain a deeper understanding of cycling and broaden their involvement in the sport they love. As a commissaire\, you are able to represent Cycling BC as a trained professional to ensure fair and safe competition. There are opportunities for paid travel and advancement from provincial to national and international certification. \nThis one-day introductory course is for those looking to know more about cycling officiating. The course will cover the rules\, teach you how to read a license\, handle registration\, provide information about start/finish procedures\, manual timing and much more. At the conclusion of the course\, you will have a greater understanding of the role of a commissaire\, increased knowledge of the mountain bike/cyclocross-specific rules as well as understand how to progress through the ranks from a level C trainee to an international commissaire. The course is also suitable for event organizers\, team managers and coaches who wish to learn the principle rules of the sport in order to be more effective in their roles. \nNewly trained officials will be able to participate in CBC’s mentorship program\, putting into practice the theory and skills learned at the course\, under the supervision of experienced commissaires over the course of the 2021 season to complete their level C certification. \nA travel grant will be available for those travelling more than 100km. DESCRIPTION:Performance Theory\nThis module is officially titled: NCCP Competition Development Performance Cycling Workshop in the Coaches Association of Canada LOCKER system. \nCycling BC members 18 years and older may participate in the 80-hour Performance Coach (Comp-Dev) pathway\, including this Performance Theory workshop facilitated by Cycling Canada. \nThe Performance Coach pathway is for leaders who support and lead provincial or national team projects and manage Cycling Canada Trade Teams or international elite-amateur teams. The module helps you prepare to lead practices and events for participants in the “Train to Compete” and “Train to Win” stages of the Long Term Athlete Development Model. \nParticipants work through various individual and small group activities to discuss advanced sport-specific skills\, develop healthy travel habits\, and reinforce the importance of team building\, work/life balance\, and goal-oriented preparation. \nThe module is facilitated online over 6 x 3-hour sessions. Participants are expected to attend and actively participate in each session. Gilbert holds degrees in physical education\, human kinetics\, and education\, and has taught and studied coaching and talent development at the University of Ottawa\, University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA)\, and Fresno State. He is author of the highly acclaimed book Coaching Better Every Season and Editor Emeritus of the International Sport Coaching Journal. Gilbert has counseled coaches and sport organizations around the world spanning all competitive levels and in every sport imaginable. Wade currently also serves as the mental performance coach for the Canadian Women’s Softball team that will be competing in the Tokyo 2021 Summer Olympics. \n\n\nSheereen Harris\nSheereen Harris is a PhD Candidate in the Exercise and Health Psychology Lab at McMaster University (Hamilton\, Ontario). Harris’s research interests include self-control\, mental fatigue\, motivation\, and effort-based decision-making and her current research investigates how mental fatigue and other feeling states affect one’s willingness to engage in exercise behaviours. Harris completed her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Health Sciences at York University (Toronto\, ON) while competing as a sprinter on York’s Varsity Track and Field team. Since 2017\, Harris has been a speed coach through McMaster University’s Strength and Conditioning team\, preparing football student-athletes for regional and national combines. As a former athlete\, Harris is passionate about encouraging the overall development of athletes. \n\n\nSara Kramers\nSara Kramers is a PhD Candidate within the School of Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa. Within the sports psychology and pedagogy stream\, her research examines the teaching and development of life skills within youth sport\, coaching education\, as well as the evaluation and quality of youth sport programming. Sara’s doctorate research is funded by the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship. She completed both her undergraduate and master’s degrees at the University of Ottawa\, again within the School of Human Kinetics. Sara has engaged in many academic collaborations with colleagues in Brazil\, the United Kingdom\, and the United States to study coaches’ and parents’ roles in supporting young athletes’ psychosocial development through sport. She has also engaged in many applied partnerships with provincial and national sport organizations\, including evaluating the quality of Golf Canada’s national junior golf programming during her Master’s and recently evaluating the impact of the Women in Coaching education programs delivered by the Coaching Association of Canada. Asides from studying\, Sara enjoys coaching a youth hockey program in Ottawa that aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for youth to thrive and develop life skills. \n\n\nAdam Sollitt\nBio coming soon… \n\n\nTrent Stellingwerff\nTrent is an applied sport physiologist with a specialization in the area of performance nutrition. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Exercise Physiology at Cornell University and he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Guelph in Exercise and Skeletal Muscle Physiology. In his current role\, he focuses on providing his physiology and nutrition expertise to Canada’s national rowing\, track and field and triathlon teams\, as well as leading Canadian Sport Institute’s Innovation and Research division. Trent previously worked as the senior leading scientist in Performance Nutrition for Power Bar at the Nestle Research Center in Lausanne\, Switzerland. An experienced researcher\, Trent has more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is currently on the editorial board for the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance and International Journal of Sports Nutrition & Exercise Metabolism. He has co-authored six book chapters focusing on the role that nutrition can play in supporting elite athlete performance\, including a chapter on ‘Nutrition for the Endurance Athlete’\, for the newest version of the 2013 IOC Sports Nutrition Encyclopaedia. A certificate of completion (yellow) is awarded and you may apply to Cycling BC’s coach database to showcase your expertise.  To achieve full certification and fulfill the role of club head coach\, complete the final theory module and submit your portfolio for evaluation. \nThis particular event is organized and facilitated by Cycling BC. \nPre-Requisites: \n\nClub Theory A\nBasic Skills\n\nThe pathway includes additional on-demand and facilitated SafeSport modules that are required to lead Cycling BC practices and clinics.
