This program works in harmony with coaches from the Phoenix Velo Youth Cycling Club to help kids access more local mountain biking opportunities.  The program will use the iRide skills curriculum and the Sprockids skills curriculum to help your child build their confidence\, foster friendships with their peers and develop intermediate and advanced bicycle skills. \nThis program builds on the legacy of Doug Detwiller’s Sprockids curriculum to connect kids in your community with certified NCCP coaches trained to work with young people through Cycling BC’s iRide program. All sessions are covered by Cycling BC’s insurance policy with Marsh Canada. \nThis 6-week learn-to-ride program covers a variety of topics that involve all aspects of riding. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nPriority codes available for participants under 20 years of age until October 12th. Email iride@cyclingbc.net to receive your discount code.  \nThis course is the minimum requirement for new coaches who would like to work with their local cycling club or with Cycling BC’s iRide program. \nCommunity Initiation\nThis community initiation course is designed for coaches who will primarily work with novice\, pre-competitive cyclists at the community level\, including participants in the Active Start\, FUNdamentals and early Learn to Train stages of athlete development (outlined in Cycling Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Model). The program is simple\, based on a number of pre-designed lesson plans\, and adaptable to the varying skill and ability levels of participants. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nThis course will train coaches who would like to work with their local cycling club and riders in the LTAD Learn to Train and Train to Train phase. \nTraining Basics\nIf you want to work with competitive cyclists at the community and club level\, this workshop is for you. Learn structured training\, competition programming\, and skill development in this 14-hour in-class course designed for coaches that work with athletes aged 12 and up in most cycling disciplines. \nThe Ready to Race! coaching stream is structured as follows: Learn More\nReady to Race! Introduction to Competition (R2R) is the context for coaches who will primarily work with new competitive cyclists at the community and club level. These athletes will likely be in the Learn to Train to Train to Train stages of LTAD\, although the context could apply to any new racer of any age. These athletes have basic but developed cycling skills and the desire to begin competing within a structured training and competition program. Apr. 4-5\n\n\n\n\nRegistration can be found here\, the cost is $200 for all 5 camps.  Drop in for each camp is $60\, however\, priority will be given to athletes registered in all 5 camps and intending to attend Jr. Nationals April 12-14\, 2019 in Milton\, ON. \nThese camps are designed to be fun and to give everyone a positive and safe training environment for athletes targeting Nationals and qualification for World Championships. \nMore details on what will be offered at each camp will be sent out to registered athletes closer to the date.  There are several opportunities to link up some of the training camps with Friday night racing at BVC\, as well as\, Bare Bones racing events taking place November 10-11 and again in March (dates TBC) and the Western National Challenge taking place January 19-20.  These are great races to put our practice and training to the test\, so keep an eye on the BVC calendar here to ensure you don’t miss out on some great racing opportunities. \nIf you have any questions or concerns\, please do not hesitate to contact Tara Mowat at tara(at)cyclingbc.net.

DESCRIPTION:Track Skills\nThis module is officially titled: NCCP Ready to Race! Introduction to Competition Skills & Tactics Practical: Track in the Coaches Association of Canada LOCKER system. \nThis outdoor club skills module helps you practice teaching intermediate velodrome cycling skills and tactics for participants in the “Learn to Train” and “Train to Train” stages of the Long Term Athlete Development Model. \nThe module builds on the concepts covered in the pre-requisites and takes place in a parking lot and on local roadways. To pass the module\, participants must prepare two lesson plans (one skill and one tactic) and be ready to teach them to the group. This activity is included in questions 52b and 52c of the Club Coach Journal. \nAfter completing this module and all remaining SafeSport pre-requisites\, you may fulfill the role of Club Assistant Coach at a Cycling BC club or team. A certificate of completion (yellow) is awarded and you may apply to Cycling BC’s coach database to showcase your expertise.  To achieve full certification and fulfill the role of club head coach\, complete the final theory module and submit your portfolio for evaluation. \nThis particular event is organized and facilitated by Cycling BC. \nPre-Requisites: \n\nClub Theory A\nBasic Skills\n\nThe pathway includes additional on-demand and facilitated SafeSport modules that are required to lead Cycling BC practices and clinics. Sean has also recently raced the US collegiate scene. Sean will be joining the athlete panel to speak about his experience as a rider. \nSara Bergen\nOnce of Canada’s strongest road racers\, Sara came to cycling later in life and is currently racing as a professional with Rally-UHC Pro Cycling.  She successfully entered the world stage at the 2016 UCI Road World Championships in Qatar\, riding in support of Canada’s top sprinters\, contributing to a record two top 15 finishes.  Outside of cycling\, Bergen holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Architectural Science and a diploma in Architectural and Building Engineering Technology from British Columbia Institute of Technology. Sara will be joining the athlete panel to speak about her experience as a rider. \nLaura Brown\nLaura Brown is a two-time Canadian Olympian and a 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist as part of the Canadian Women’s Track Cycling Team in Rio de Janeiro. Laura grew up in Alberta where she started as a competitive gymnast but switched sports due to a back injury as a teenager. Laura began cycling at the Olympic Oval National Cycling Centre in Calgary and after spending several years in the development program there\, she moved to the west coast to attend the University of Victoria where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree\, and continued to pursue her new passion. Over the past decade\, Laura has raced and has podiumed on many international stages\, including a couple of World Cup Championships. Laura has also been a professional road racer since 2012. Laura will be joining the athlete panel to speak about her experience. \n\nAndreas ‘Dre’ Hestler\nAndreas “Dre” Hestler found his passion for mountain biking in 1986. After moving to Vancouver and embracing the life of a courier\, he was introduced to racing and a new love was born. Community Initiation\nIdeal for parents\, volunteers\, teachers and others who occasionally work with youth or adults new to cycling\, this one day\, in-class workshop covers the basic principles of coaching including ethical decision making\, planning and organizing a practice\, cycling safety and risk management\, and introducing disabled riders to the sport. \nThis course is the minimum requirement for new coaches who would like to work with a local group or Cycling BC’s iRide program. As an alternative\, coaches can skip this course and instead enroll in the Ready to Race!
