SUMMARY:ROAD Instructor Training
DESCRIPTION:Road Instructor Training Weekend\nCycling BC is excited to host this special weekend and build upon the success of our 2023 pilot. We invite coaches with or without previous coach education to connect\, discuss\, and practice instructing and coaching basic and intermediate road cycling skills. \nParticipants attending on Saturday receive credit for NCCP Basic Skills\, and participants attending on Sunday also receive credit for NCCP Club Skills (ROAD). \nTransportation from the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal is available. We can transport seven coaches and their bicycles throughout the weekend. Sign up during registration. \nOn Sunday afternoon\, we are hosting a discounted LTR Road54 and Road43 group so that you can practice your teaching in a closed or open environment\, respectively\, with real Cycling BC members interested in road cycling. \nAt least 12 coaches must register by March 13\, 2024\, to confirm the event. DESCRIPTION:Road Instructor Training Weekend\nCycling BC is excited to host this special weekend and build upon the success of our 2023 and 2024 pilots. We invite coaches with or without previous coach education to connect\, discuss\, and practice instructing and coaching basic and intermediate road cycling skills. \n\nSaturday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm\nSunday 8:30 am – 3:00 pm\n\nParticipants attending on Saturday receive credit for NCCP Basic Skills\, and participants attending on Sunday also receive credit for NCCP Club Skills (ROAD). \nOn Sunday afternoon\, we are hosting a discounted LTR Road54 skills session so that you can practice your teaching in a closed or open environment\, respectively\, with Cycling BC members new to road cycling. \nA Cycling BC Single-Event License or Annual Membership is required. \n**Participants from Vancouver can pedal across on the 8 am Saturday morning ferry out of Tsawassen.\n\n**Carpooling is available: Two spots available in a vehicle leaving Semlin Road in Vancouver at 630am.

DESCRIPTION:This module is facilitated online using Microsoft Teams and includes four 2-hour sessions. \nFebruary 4 @ 6:30-8:30 pm PST\nFebruary 11 @ 6:30-8:30 pm PST\nFebruary 18 @ 6:30-8:30 pm PST\nFebruary 25 @ 6:30-8:30 pm PST \nCourse Description:\nPractice planning: \n\nSet an appropriate structure for the practice\, including warm-up\, skill development\, physical preparation\, cool-down;\nBe able to modify training sessions appropriately based on developmental\, physical and environmental factors;\nIdentify risk factors that may be encountered in training and competition;\nDevelop an Emergency Action Plan (EAP).\n\nProviding support to athletes in training: \n\nKnow the basic equipment needed for cycling and how to use it safely;\nVerify that facilities and equipment pose no safety risks;\nCoach an appropriately structured and organized training session using a practice plan listing clear goals\, activities\, and elements (eg cool-down\, hydration);\nExplain activities\, and provide feedback\, in a way that is consistent with the guidelines set for the age group within the cycling LTAD model;\nSelect activities and deliver feedback in a way that promotes self-esteem;\nUnderstand and demonstrate basics of working with cyclists with a disability (AWAD).\n\nAnalyze performance: \n\nIdentify and correct errors in positioning if they exist;\nAnalyze stages in performance of cycling skills\, using a template;\nUse an observation plan and appropriate observation strategies to detect skill performance;\nExplain activities\, and provide feedback\, in a way that is consistent with the guidelines set for the age group within the cycling\nLTAD model;\nTeach riding skills and know how to identify and correct errors in skill performance;\nIdentify and correct errors in tactical performance.\n\nProviding support to athletes in competition: \n\nExplain the fundamental rules that govern racing;\nProvide advice on eating and drinking before\, in and after competition and training;\nProvide advice on basic racing tactics;\nPrepare athletes for competition by assisting them to follow pre-race and post-race plans including preparation of equipment\, nutrition\, tactical and mental preparation\, warm-up and cool-down and evaluation activities;\n\n  \n
