These races will also launch this year’s national series\, the BMX Canada Cup. \nThe BMX Canada Cup Series will offer a lineup of 7 races to the young and fast BMXers of Canada. The series will kick off in May\, and will travel to British Columbia\, Ontario\, and Alberta to finish in Calgary\, AB where the new Canada Cup overall Champions will be crowned. The Canada Cup was introduced in 2012 as a way to help bridge provincial competitions to the international stage\, and since has been an efficient tool in providing national competition to young riders\, which is propelling Canada to some of its best international results since BMX became an Olympic discipline in 2008. “The 2017 Canada Cup series will offer some great opportunities for young aspiring BMXers to compete against some of Canada’s best\,” said Josh Peacock\, the series coordinator for Cycling Canada. “The growth of the BMX Canada Cup series has been impressive over the last four years\, and we are counting on more young BMXers to join the series this year. With new world-class facilities in place such as the Toronto Pan Am BMX track\, athletes young and old will have access to the highest level of competition across the spectrum.” \nAction BMX will host the opening weekend of racing for the series with a UCI C1 sanctioned Canada Cup on Saturday May 27th and a National Calendar Canada Cup event on Sunday May 28th. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nThis course will train coaches who would like to work with their local cycling club or with Cycling BC’s iRide program. \nLet’s Ride\nThis community initiation course is designed for coaches who will primarily work with novice\, pre-competitive cyclists at the community level\, including participants in the Active Start\, FUNdamentals and early Learn to Train stages of athlete development (outlined in Cycling Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Model). The program is simple\, based on a number of pre-designed lesson plans\, and adaptable to the varying skill and ability levels of participants. The focus of the program is on having participants develop skills that are basic to MTB\, BMX\, and Road\, in a controlled\, off-road\, off-trail setting such as a sport field or parking lot. \nBasic Cycling Skills\nThis workshop helps coaches learn how to teach basic cycling skills. What makes the Hayman Classic distinctive is that it is open only to young cyclists\, meaning those aged 13 to 19. \nMore than that\, the races are designed to give these young cyclists a European-style experience of riding in groups or alone over courses that challenge their skill\, strength and stamina against top juniors from British Columbia\, Canada and the United States. For coaches and trainers\, it’s a chance to take the measure of the next generation of cyclists. \nFor Ron Hayman\, the former Olympian and pro racer behind the Hayman Classic\, it’s an opportunity to nurture and encourage young riders\, but more important to give them a chance to compete. Too often\, he says\, young riders devote hours and hours to training but rarely if ever have the chance to succeed – and fail and learn – from a hard-fought race. DESCRIPTION:Returning on Saturday June 10\, 2017 in the gorgeous Nicola Valley. This year there is a race for everyone! \n\n39 km Long Course: The Long Course has been extended to 39km of fast and flowing single track by incorporating a new trail\, FloJo.\n16km Short Course: this course remains the same fan favourite show casing our best terrain.\n10.5km Intro to Race: new for this year\, we’ve added our new trail FloJo\, forming the shortest race loop that will appeal to all riding levels. Beginner racers\, this will be the perfect entry to the world of mountain bike racing.\n\nKids Event\nThe Merritt Mountain Bike Association has partnered with Ozmosis Training PMBI Certified Coaches to offer a bike skill building Youth Camp focused on fun and safety. Camp discounts are provided to registrants with family members participating in the Cow Trail Classic. \nAccommodations\nCamping: YES you may camp at the race site. It’s crown land and organizers ask that you keep the area clean and take your garbage out with you. \nHotels: the new Comfort Inn in Merritt as well as the Ramada Hotel will be offering participants discounted room rates. \nDirections\nIn Merritt\, at the junction Voght St. and Nicola Ave. (use the 7-eleven as a landmark)\, go south on Voght St \, cross the bridge over Coldwater River. Turn left onto Mid Day Valley Road\, which will turn into gravel at some point. You’ll pass two cattle guards\, and about 300m after the second one\, you’ll come to the meadows\, where you park and see the race setup. \nYou are there. \nRegistration\nRegistration fees include insurance\, timing by Raceday Timing Services\, pulled pork lunch by Cheffry 911\, feed stations\, EMT support\, over $1000 in prize money and giveaways. All net proceeds go to the Merritt Mountain Bike Association to support local trail building and maintenance activities as well as trail advocacy work.
