SUMMARY:Cycling Canada Coach Webinar: Strength & Conditioning
DESCRIPTION:Cycling Canada will be holding a coach webinar Thursday December 18th at 7:30pm Eastern time.  Please see details below. \nSpeaker: Derek M. Hansen\nDerek M. Hansen is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and Sport Performance Consultant.  He currently works at Simon Fraser University as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for NCAA Division 2 athletes.  He has also worked closely with numerous national sport organizations in the area of Strength and Conditioning and athlete performance including Speed Skating Canada\, Cycling Canada\, Softball Canada\, Field Hockey Canada and Bobsleigh-Skeleton Canada.  He also provides expertise in the area of strategic planning\, speed development\, rehabilitation and performance team integration for professional teams in the NFL and collegiate teams in the NCAA.  Derek has also been a course conductor within the NCCP system for 14 years\, specializing in Strength and Conditioning\, Recovery\, Injury Prevention and Biomechanics. \nTopic: Strength and Conditioning\nDerek’s webinar will focus on the integration of strength and conditioning elements for cyclists.  While there are many ways to make athletes stronger\, it is imperative to ensure that any work done on the strength and conditioning side transfers to an athlete’s performance on the bicycle.  There can be many downsides to an overzealous approach to strengthening\, including accumulation of non-functional muscle mass\, increases in muscle tension that obstruct desired neuromuscular coordination and the utilization of energy that could be put to better use on the bicycle.  We will examine a variety of approaches that coaches can adopt and integrate to ensure their cycling athletes are improving their sport-specific performance. \nHow to register:\nIf you would like to participate in this workshop\, please email elizabeth.kiraly@cyclingcanada.ca for details on how to connect.  If you would like to receive NCCP Professional Development Points\, please include your NCCP#.

SUMMARY:NCCP: Training Basics
DESCRIPTION:This January\, Cycling Canada will be piloting the Ready to Race! Training Basics course\, to be completed online.  If successful\, their goal is to schedule a few off-bike NCCP courses each year through this format.  This will help coaches in remote areas or with limited access to workshops the opportunity to work on their NCCP certification. \nReady to Race! Introduction to Competition (R2R) is the context for coaches who will primarily work with new competitive cyclists at the community and club level. These athletes will likely be in the Learn to Train to Train to Train stages of LTAD\, although the context could apply to any new racer of any age. These athletes have basic but developed cycling skills and the desire to begin competing within a structured training and competition program. They should have passed through an entry-level Community Initiation program (CCI) to help them develop the basic skills. \n  \n\n\n\nSchedule:(coaches must be present at all sessions to receive credit)\n\n\nMonday January 5\n4:30-6:30pm\n\n\nWednesday\, January 7\n4:30-6:30pm\n\n\nMonday\, January 12\n4:30-6:30pm\n\n\nWednesday\, January 14\n4:30-6:30pm\n\n\nMonday\, January 19\n4:30-6:30pm\n\n\nWednesday\, January 21\n4:30-6:30pm

SUMMARY:Escape Velocity Spring Series Aldergrove Short RR & TT
DESCRIPTION:  \nRACE RESULTS\nSome Rules to Remember \n\nFenders must be removed for racing at Spring Series.\nThere will be no free lap rule for mechanicals. If you do suffer a mechanical and sit out a lap\, you will be allowed to re-enter the race in the main group or any group behind the main group\, at the discretion of the race organizer. In this situation you will be allowed to finish out the race but you must not impact the outcome of the race in any way. Should this occur you as well as your entire team/club will be disqualified from that race. This rule will be strictly enforced.\nCentre Line Rule\n\nAny rider who intentionally rides on the left side of the centre line in order to gain advantage is in violation of the centre line rule. \nYou must also stay to the right of the cones in the middle of the road along the course. Cones will used to delineate the acceptable lines in all corners and in any curves with limited visibility. \nPlease remember that the races are run on open roads and there will be on coming traffic in the other lane. Crossing the centre of the road (yellow line no) or beyond the cones is exceptionally dangerous to both yourself and the other people you are racing with. \nThe only times that is it acceptable to break this rule is when a rider is pushed over the centre line by riders beside them (and re-enters without gaining advantage). \nIf you are observed violating the centre line rule you may be pulled from the race and receive a Yellow Card. A Yellow Card may also be issued if multiple riders state that one individual has broken the centre line rule. If a rider with a Yellow Card is observed to violate the centre line rule they will be expelled from all remaining Spring Series races. \n\nKeep your bib & chip\n\nYou will get a race number (“bib”) and a timing chip at the first race\, and you will keep it for use in the Spring and Sportif series throughout the year. Bring it each time you race: replacement numbers and chips cost $5 (number swap due to category change is free\, but you have to turn in your old number). \n\nBe Nice\n\n\nPlease be courteous and respectful to vehicles and residents\, if they complain we will not be able to use this course.\nPlease use the washrooms provided.\nTake your litter with you: this includes not tossing mid-race gel wrappers on the ground. Tuck it back in your pocket. Retrieve your bottles\, too.\nOffensive Language\, whether directed at passers-by\, fellow racers\, officials\, or your own weak self\, is not acceptable.\n\nAny of these offences are grounds for disqualification and banning from future races. Don’t be the person we decide to make an example of. \nRACE INSTRUCTIONS: \nStep 0. Pre-reg!\nYou can pre-register for your chip and bib online. That lets you save $5 and some time at your first race. You still have to sign up for each race; pre-reg will open at least 2 weeks before each event. \nStep 1. Sign-on \nSign-on opens at 9:30 AM sharp. \nLicense \nThese races are classified as Club Events with Cycling BC with an additional insurance rider. As such people require one of the following licenses to race. \n\n\n\nLicense\nClub\nCan race\n\n\nAny UCI\n–\nYes\n\n\nCBC Citizens\n–\nYes\n\n\nCBC Associates\nMember of host club\nYes\n\n\nCBC Associates\nMember of a different club\nNo\n\n\nUS Domestic\n–\nYes\n\n\nNo License\n–\nNo\n\n\n\n Cost \n\n\n\nRR Pre-Reg\nRR/TT Pre-Reg\nTT Pre-Reg\nSS Day-Of-Reg\nRR/TT Day-Of-Reg\nTT Day-Of-Reg\nBIB Fee\n\n\nAdult\n$32\n$42\n$20\n$38\n$50\n$26\n$10\n\n\nJunior\n$22\n$30\n$12\n$28\n$38\n$18\n$10\n\n\n\nBib fee is a one-time fee for your race number & timing chip; this also covers you for WTNC later in the year.\nPre-reg cut-off is 23:59 Wednesday before each race weekends. \nPrizes and Podium Ceremonies \nPodium for each category is 30 minutes after finish\, at the race trailer unless otherwise noted. Prizing in A\, B\, C: $30\, $20\, $15\, $10\, $10 for 1st through 5th (short fields will be paid from first down\, no more than half the field to get prized). A\, B\, C women: same prize payout for women’s podium. We also have merchandise prizes at select races\, thanks to our generous sponsors. \nFine for missing the podium ceremony: your prize money. \nAll races are sanctioned by Cycling BC.

SUMMARY:Escape Velocity Spring Series River Road RR
DESCRIPTION:RACE RESULTS\nSome Rules to Remember \n\nFenders must be removed for racing at Spring Series.\nThere will be no free lap rule for mechanicals. SUMMARY:Escape Velocity Spring Series Thunderbird RR
DESCRIPTION:Some Rules to Remember \n\nFenders must be removed for racing at Spring Series.\nThere will be no free lap rule for mechanicals. SUMMARY:Hammerfest XC
DESCRIPTION:The 2015 XC race will start and finish in the Englishman River Provincial Park.  Riders can park in the main day-use parking area and use whatever facilities are open this time of the year.  The race course is a mixture of old school and new school HammerFest trails.  A 500 m double track\, gravel road start will spread racers out and lead to the single track climb.  This old school route will surely bust a gut climbing the Walrus and Brian’s Worm trails to the power lines.  But this will all be forgotten\, and forgiven\, as racers follow the new school\, fast and flowy lines of Jughead.  A couple of gravel road stretches are thrown in for good measure. \n\nLaps are about 7.5 km long\n1/2/3 laps for beginner/intermediate/expert.\n\nOnline pre-registration only – $30 \n  \nThe 2015 Vancouver Island Cup Mountain Bike Race Series\, is BC’s premiere grassroots race series spanning the length of Vancouver Island. Cross Country\, Downhill\, Enduro and Marathon disciplines are brought together from numerous local mountain bike clubs. \nIf you’re a first timer\, seasoned pro or just out to have some fun we would love to see you experience mountain bike racing on Vancouver Island. \nIsland Cup Races are sanctioned by Cycling BC. \nRace Info \nLocation – Hammerfest trails\, Errington BC \nTime – Race number pickup Sunday March 23rd – 10 am Racing @ 12 noon \nFees – $25 pre – $30 day of \nLocal Weather – http://www.theweathernetwork.com/parksfx/cabc2832 \nRegister online! \n*Event details are subject to change.
