SUMMARY:Tripleshot Cross Fondo
DESCRIPTION:Have fun. Raise funds. Get dirty.\nSunday\, October 16\, 2016: Victoria BC’s first mass participation off-road cycling event for all ages and abilities winds through flowy pine-needle trails and hairpin turns\, over hills\, roots and rocks\, and churns through chunky peanut butter mud and puddles. Oh\, and maybe a few hike-a-bike sections to keep it legit. \nFeaturing: Bear Mountain. The Highlands. Hartland Mountain Bike Park. Camosun College. Francis King & Thetis Lake Regional Parks. Private property that owners are opening up for this one day. Short and long course options. \nWave starts. Chip timing. Fab food with yummy home-baked goodies. And a few other surprises.\nThis event is a fund raiser for the Tripleshot Cycling Club Youth Team and will support quality year-round coaching for the youth team — age 11-17 — who train hard and love to compete in cross\, road\, track and mountain bike at the local\, provincial\, national and international level. A portion of the funds raised will also go to support the South Vancouver Island Nature Trails Society and their mission of connecting trail systems. \nThis event is supported by the Tripleshot Cycling Club. Check back for more details including registration information.

SUMMARY:Valley Cross - Cultus Lake
DESCRIPTION:Part of the 2016 BC Premier Cyclocross Series. \nWhy cyclocross racing? Plain and simple: it’s a ton of fun! Races are short – less than an hour – with riders navigating sometimes muddy terrain\, slippery off-camber grass sections\, jumping barriers and pushing themselves just hard enough to keep a smile on their face. If not racing Pro category\, riders can compete on any bike they might have in their shed – CX bike\, mountain bike\, fat bike or even that $300 Frankenbike – it doesn’t matter. Bring it on! \nDid we mention fun? Cyclocross races thrive on inclement weather conditions; the wetter\, the muddier\, the better! And talk about spectator-friendly\, you can easily watch most of the race from one vantage point thanks to the tight course layout and varying terrain. With various “hand-ups”\, on course shenanigans\, cheering or heckling and loads of cow bell\, you can’t help but get swept up in the cyclocross experience!

SUMMARY:NCCP: Community Initiation
DESCRIPTION:Register for the Let’s Ride & Basic Cycling Skills course (Oct 23rd\, 2016) \nREGISTER\n  \nThis course will train coaches who would like to work with their local cycling club or with Cycling BC’s iRide program. \nLet’s Ride! Community Cycling Initiation (CCI) is the NCCP context for coaches who will primarily work with novice\, pre-competitive cyclists at the community level\, including participants in the Active Start\, FUNdamentals and early Learn to Train stages of athlete development (outlined in Cycling Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Model). The program is simple\, based on a number of pre-designed lesson plans\, and adaptable to the varying skill and ability levels of participants. The focus of the program is on having participants develop skills that are basic to MTB\, BMX\, and Road\, in a controlled\, off-road\, off-trail setting such as a sport field or parking lot. \nThe training required to become a Community Coach is participation in two NCCP workshops: the Community Coach “Let’s Ride”\, and the Basic Cycling Skills session\, which includes practical training. These workshops have been combined into a full training event. \nThe Let’s Ride! Community Cycling Initiation stream is structured as follows: \nCoach Status: In Training\nLet’s Ride! Community Cycling Initiation \nIdeal for parents\, volunteers\, teachers and others who occasionally work with youth or adults new to cycling\, this one day\, in-class workshop covers the basic principles of coaching including ethical decision making\, planning and organizing a practice\, cycling safety and risk management\, and introducing disabled riders to the sport. \nCoach Status: Trained\nBasic Cycling Skills \nThis workshop trains coaches on the instruction of basic cycling skills. Workshop material covers skill analysis\, observation\, and corrective feedback – all vital skills for coaches of both new and experienced cyclists looking to improve. \n  \nLearning Facilitator: Richard Wooles \nProgram Cost: $85 \nPayment: Cash or Cheque made to “Cycling BC”

SUMMARY:ValleyCross
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nValleyCross is Abbotsford’s premier cyclocross event situated in picturesque Mill Lake Park\, Abbotsford’s crown jewel\, just minutes off of Highway One. Featuring long sight lines\, two large mature Douglas Fir grooves\, stair run-ups\, a sand section\, a paved start/finish line straight-away\, and a kids playground to keep the family engaged in-between races – Mill Lake Park is the perfect cyclocross venue. If not racing\, Pro riders can compete on any bike they might have in their shed – CX bike\, mountain bike\, fat bike or even that $300 Frankenbike – it doesn’t matter. Bring it on! \nDid we mention fun? Cyclocross races thrive on inclement weather conditions; the wetter\, the muddier\, the better! And talk about spectator-friendly\, you can easily watch most of the race from one vantage point thanks to the tight course layout and varying terrain. With various “hand-ups” on course shenanigans\, cheering or heckling and loads of cow bell\, you can’t help but get swept up in the cyclocross experience! \nThis is the final event in the 2016 BC Premier CX Series.

SUMMARY:Teams of BC Training Camp #1
DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE TO REGISTER\nThe Teams of BC training camps are intended as a shared developmental program\, aimed at riders becoming more committed to track\, and to prepare for National Track Championships/Junior Worlds Trials in Milton\, March 30 – April 2nd. \nEvery accepted rider will be accommodated in team event training\, with a coach and team performance objectives\, through to nationals if they wish.  Riders DO NOT need to commit to attending Nationals. That said\, if the camps fill up\, priority will go to riders committing to the full series of camps. Our view is that a focus on teammates and training together at the camps will motivate riders to train between camps\, whether for personal development\, or to perform in March. \nThis year there is a new opportunity to decide if you’re ready for Nationals\, by attending the Western Canadian Track Championships in Burnaby in February 24th to 26th. \nRiders should be U17 or U19\, with second year U15 riders if space allows. \nThere will be four training camps: \n\nDec. 15-16\nJan. 12-13\nFeb. 16-17\nMar. 23-24\n\nThe camp fee is $200\, and covers all 4 camps. \nThis includes: coaching\, Burnaby track rental for 4 x 2 hours sessions over two days\, in December\, January\, February and March. The fee includes a billet with a Vancouver area rider’s family\, transportation to and from the track with the billet family\, and\, for island riders\, a ferry shuttle Thursday morning and Friday evening.  Special presentations and seminars will be announced based on athletes’ feedback.  To register please fill out the registration form here. \nFor more information please contact Tara Mowat (tara(at)cyclingbc.net).
