SUMMARY:Intro to Downhill - BC Cup New Racer workshop: Kicking Horse Mountain Resort
DESCRIPTION:Register now!\nThinking of racing but unsure where to start? This one-day downhill workshop is an introduction to racing targeted at intermediate to advanced riders who are interested in entering the racing community. Participants will have the opportunity to run through a day in the life of racing\, learning how to assess course conditions\, explore line options\, work through features and technical course sections with guidance. This coached session will enable racers to consolidate and refine their skills while building confidence in their ability to successfully navigate a BC Cup racecourse. The workshop will allow for repetition and feedback which will enable riders to test themselves in a safe\, low-pressure environment so that riders can reflect on how line choice and preparation affect the outcome of each run. \nThis workshop is open to riders aged 11 to 22 (born 1999 to 2010) who are comfortable riding sustained descents on black diamond trails. This workshop is designed for new racers and riders with minimal race experience. \nThe workshop registration fee does not include: \n\nPark pass*\nMeals\nEquipment rentals\nInsurance (all participants are required to be Cycling BC members or purchase a single event membership)\n\n*Note that it is recommended that tickets are pre-purchased with completed Resort waivers. \nAbout the Coach \nArden Greanya has been an avid mountain biker since arriving in Calgary in 1998. Arden began racing XC in 2003 and entered the DH race scene in 2011. This lead to the creation of Drift Racing\, a youth training program focused on developing successful athletes on and off the racecourse. DESCRIPTION:Club Theory A\nThis module is officially titled: NCCP Ready to Race! Introduction to Competition Skills & Tactics Theory in the Coaches Association of Canada LOCKER system. \nThe module helps you learn how to teach skills and run a practice for participants in the “Learn to Train” and “Train to Train” stages of the Long Term Athlete Development Model. \nParticipants work through various individual and small group activities to prepare a practice plan. Once complete\, participants can register for an upcoming outdoor practice teaching module\, including Basic Skills and a Club Skills module of their choice (BMX\, Mtn. Bike\, Track\, Road). \nThe module is facilitated online over 5 x 2-hour sessions. Participants are expected to attend and actively participate in each session. Please ensure that your video and microphone are working well and that you have completed the pre-event homework (included in your registration confirmation email). Participants who miss a session can watch the recording but must submit their assignment before the next session. \nThis particular event is organized and facilitated by Cycling Canada. DESCRIPTION:Athina’s Ride is a virtual cycling event that starts with training rides on May 10th and culminates on July 10th & 11th with an epic\, COVID-friendly ride by yourself or with your cycling bubble friends. You can ride indoors on a trainer or outdoors (and manually log it\, or use platforms like Strava to automatically upload your rides). You’ll sign up\, choose your distance\, and start training. DESCRIPTION:From July 16th to August 15th 2021\, riders across BC will be taking to Tracks\, trails\, and tarmac in an effort to raise funds for wetland and wildlife conservation in Canada. Ride for Conservation is open to riders of all ages and abilities! DESCRIPTION:Sign on: From 1100 to 1145\, on the west side of the Kerry Park Arena\, 1035 Shawnigan Lake-Mill Bay Road (1 km west of Highway 1)\, off of Wilkinson Road\, opposite the baseball diamond. \nMap: www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6226370 \nStart: Corner of Wilkinson Road and Shawnigan Lake-Mill Bay Road just west of the Kerry Park Arena.
