iRide Leadership Program

Are you 14-19 years old? Do you like bikes?

Does riding bikes & playing games with kids sound like fun?

Cycling BC’s iRide Leadership Program provides youth between the ages of 14-19 with an opportunity to make a positive contribution to their sport community and accumulate volunteer hours or gain relevant work experience at the same time. Participants who successfully complete one of the three iRide Leadership Program options below will gain the leadership skills and confidence to start a cycling program or start coaching in their community.

There are 3 ways to get involved:

NCCP Let’s Ride! coaching course

Cycling BC members 14-19 years of age can register for NCCP coaching courses at a 50% discount. The Let’s Ride Community Stream is recommended and includes 2 courses, Community Initiation and Basic Cycling Skills.

Axel Merckx Youth Development Camp w/ NCCP Option

Cycling BC has partnered with AMYDF to offer the 5-hour NCCP Let’s Ride Community Initiation course one day before the 3-day AMYDF camp. During the 3-day AMYDF camp, you will be paired with an experienced NCCP coach mentor and receive hands-on applied learning and mentorship. The goal is to apply the knowledge from the NCCP course while working with a mentor coach within the AMYDF camp. This option is open to Cycling BC members 14-19 years of age only. Explore this option.

iRide Leadership Camp

This camp is open to those aged 14-19 who can demonstrate skill level 7-10 abilities.  This camp will cover the NCCP Community Initiation course and Basic Cycling Skills course, as well as provide participants with an opportunity to practice coaching at various cycling venues, including a BMX track, velodrome, road, and a field trip to the Squamish Mountain Bike Trail system. The 2019 iRide Leadership Camp will be hosted by Cycling BC in Burnaby, from August 26-30th.  Explore this option.

Grants: U19 Cycling BC members willing to make a commitment to coach at an iRide Community Program or U13 youth club in the months following their NCCP training can apply for an iRide Development Grant and receive a 50% discount on camp registration.

I am already NCCP-trained, what are my next steps?

If you have already completed the NCCP Community Initiation and Basic Cycling Skills course, please review our Age/Course matrix on page 2 of this document, or contact to discuss your next step.

In the meantime, reach out to a local club or iRide head coach and see if you can drop by and help out. Please note, all Cycling BC coaches 19 years and older are required to complete a Criminal Record Check prior to coaching.
