Zone 6: Vancouver Island (North)

Regional Coordinator & Head Coach: Lauren Lan

Qualifications & Experience:

As the Head Coach for the Zone 6 iRide program, Lauren is stoked to be passing on her passion for pedalling to local youth. Outdoors, on bikes, with kids....these are the 3 reasons why Lauren loves coaching with iRide, striving to develop a rapidly growing, energized generation, stoked on cycling.

Lauren's lifelong love affair with biking began with her 3rd Christmas upon receiving the infamous Big Wheels, and it was all downhill from there. Her real love is mountain biking, both XC and DH, but when not mountain biking or coaching, you will most often see Lauren cruising around town on her classic pink Peugeot. Lauren completed her NCCP certification in both the Community Sport and Competition stream over 10 years ago, along with her Mountain Bike Instructors Training and has been spreading smiles coaching ever since. Prior to living on Vancouver Island, Lauren was the Head Coach for a large cycling club in Canmore, AB organizing and implementing cycling instruction for adults and youth. And while she enjoys coaching and instructing all ages and genders, Lauren truest form of coaching-bliss is working with school aged kids, helping to create that spark for cycling that will last a lifetime.

Since then, Adam has been a member of the Canadian National Team, a National Champion in 100km Team Time Trial, Canada Cup Overall Champion in XC MTB, and has won multiple provincial championship titles, both on and off road, in Alberta and BC. Cycling has taken Adam to many places around the world.

“Giving kids the freedom that they feel from riding and teaching them the skills to do what they thought was impossible are the aspects of coaching that really drive me,” says Adam. “Seeing the smiles on their faces is so incredibly rewarding!”

Adam is an NCCP trained coach as well as a PMBIA Certified Professional Mountain Bike Instructor.

Zone 7: North Western BC (Terrace)

Head Coach: Matt Kenny

Qualifications & Experience:

Matt Kenny joins iRide as the lead contact for Northwest BC and brings a wealth of coaching experience to our team. An avid XC and DH mountain biker with over 18 years of coaching experience, Matt is a trained NCCP level 1 coach, an iRide leader and a Canadian Mountain Bike Instructor.

"My passion for cycling started with my family. My father grew up road and cyclocross racing in England and Europe and when my older brothers also started racing with Edmonton's Juventus Cycling Club, I would help Dad coach them by riding in the support vehicle at big road races, changing wheels and such."

Matt continued his cycling experience as an instructor and mountain guide in Whistler for 8 years. Since moving to Terrace in 2006, he has worked as a director for the Terrace Off Road Cycling Association (TORCA), developing trails, organizing races and helping new riders build confidence.

"I look forward to developing a sustainable cycling program in Northwest BC and sharing my passion for cycling with kids and adults alike. Let's have some fun on our bikes!"
