2012 BMX Youth & Junior Development team program

11.23.2011 – Cycling BC is pleased to announce the 2012 Development team program.  In 2012 we will be continuing our Youth and Junior Development team programs. The BMX cyclists from these programs will receive coaching and assistance in development into highly competitive athletes who will hopefully represent BC at future World Championships and Olympic Games.

Youth Development team will continue for its sixth year. The team will target younger athletes with potential and develop their skills, preparing them for the high performance team. Athletes were selected from performances at the BC Championships and the BC Cup Series and were the top two riders from each age group. Cycling BC will continue to offer the development camps to all youth (12 & under) Cycling BC members for a per usage fee.  Team members will be able to take part in our youth development camps at no fee.  All the Youth Development camps in the 2012 season will be flats only, as the focus of the camps are skill based.  Having the athletes on flat pedals allows them to focus on the basic components to perform a skill.

Junior Development team will continue for its fifth year.  The team is a bridge from the youth team to the Provincial team.  Team members look to gain more training skills and prepare themselves to compete at a high level.  Cycling BC will also offer the development camps to all junior aged (13 to 15 years of age) Cycling BC members for a per usage fee.  Team members will be able to take part in our junior development camps at no fee.

There was a great deal of interest in the program this year and we thank everyone that applied.  Team selection for both development teams was decided by the 2012 selection criteria and by a few select Coaches choice positions, from outside performances and injuries.
