BC Superweek 2017 Kicks Off with Tour de Delta

In just over two weeks, more than 200 professional cyclists from every corner of North America and around the world will converge on the Lower Mainland for BC Superweek, which begins with the $25,000 Tour de Delta.

“The collaboration between the Corporation of Delta, local businesses and community members with the Tour de Delta continues to grow year after year. It is wonderful to see how incredibly welcoming the community of Delta is to all the teams and riders,” expressed BC Superweek Series Director Mark Ernsting.

Bordered by water on three sides, the Corporation of Delta provides a spectacular backdrop for the MK Delta Lands Criterium on Friday, July 7th in North Delta, the Ladner Criterium on Saturday, July 8th in Ladner, and the UCI-sanctioned White Spot | Delta Road Race on Sunday, July 9th in Tsawwassen.

“For over 16 years, our community has been host to cyclists and spectators from Canada and around the world,” said Corporation of Delta Mayor Lois E. Jackson. “I am proud and thankful to all those that make it happen — the Tour de Delta would not be the premier cycling event that it is today without the commitment and contributions from our staff, volunteers, and sponsors.”

For fans and aspiring cyclists watching the UCI sanctioned competition at the White Spot | Delta Road Race, the experience of seeing Canadian athletes up close and personal accumulating points with an eye on international competition should definitely leave an impression.

“The White Spot | Delta Road Race is the only UCI certified Road Race in British Columbia,” added Ernsting. “This is an amazing opportunity to see teams and riders who have travel from all over North America and the world to compete in this international event.”

BC Superweek is Canada’s biggest professional road cycling series and features more than $135,000 in prize money with nine races over ten days. BC Superweek runs from July 7 – 16 this summer and is made up of the Tour de Delta (July 7 – 9), New West Grand Prix (July 11), Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix (July 12), Giro di Burnaby presented by Appia Development (July 13), PoCo Grand Prix presented by Dominion Lending Centres (July 14), and Steve Nash Fitness World presents Tour de White Rock (July 15 – 16).
