Elite Canadian Road Championships Relocated to Saguenay. Masters will Remain in Victoria.

Vancouver, BC, January 26, 2018 – With the recent announcement of NTSQ Sports Group and Cycling Canada’s decision to relocate the 2018 Global Relay Canadian Road Championships p/b Lexus (Elite/Junior/Para) from Kamloops, BC to Saguenay, Quebec, Cycling BC remains committed to working with Cycling Canada and event organizers in bringing national championship road events to British Columbia in the future.

“It is unfortunate to have the Canadian Road Championships relocated from BC this year. In the coming months, we will be working with our contacts in Kamloops, Cycling Canada, and NTSQ to keep the possibilities open for 2019. We want to ensure that event organizers and municipalities in BC are in a position to host future national championships in our province. Having national events in BC is vital for the growth of our sport and allows for our BC riders to compete for national titles in their home province. Despite the news, we will focus on the season ahead with plenty of racing happening here in BC,” says Erin Waugh, Executive Director of Cycling BC.

While the Canadian Road Championships for Elite, Junior, and Para athletes on June 21-24 are being relocated to Saguenay, the Canadian Road Championships for Masters remains unaffected by this change and will still take place in Victoria, BC from June 1-3.

There are several other National Events taking place in BC this year, including the Western Track Challenge on Feb 16-19 in Burnaby, the Canadian Downhill Mountain Bike Championships, July 29, in Panorama, and the Canadian Open Enduro and Downhill events in Whistler on August 12 and August 19 respectively.
