Update on Use of Disc Brakes for the 2018 Canadian Road Championships

Cycling Canada’s announcement in November 2017 on the approved use of disc brakes for all road events across Canada with the exception of UCI sanctioned races indicated that further discussions will take place with the UCI with the hope to obtain an exemption to allow disc brakes for the 2018 Canadian Road Championships.

It has since been brought to Cycling BC’s attention by Cycling Canada that the use of disc brakes will be allowed at the 2018 Global Relay Canadian Road Championship p/b Lexus (Elite/Junior/Para) in Saguenay, QC and the Global Relay Canadian Road Championship p/b Lexus (Masters) in Victoria, BC.

As for UCI races in BC, The White Spot Delta Road Race (Sunday, July 8th) and the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix (Wednesday, July 11th) are both sanctioned by the UCI and thus the use of disc brakes is not permitted (unless specifically approved by the UCI).
