BC Mountain Bike Rider Jordie Lunn Passes Away

Cycling BC expresses our sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of BC mountain bike legend, Jordie Lunn, 36, who passed away after suffering a fatal head injury in a bike-riding accident in Mexico last week.

Originally from Parksville and then later moving to Victoria, Lunn started riding mountain bike cross-country before finding his way into Downhill mountain bike racing at BC Cup races, Canada Cups, and then quickly ascending up the ranks at the international level in the early 2000s. In 2003, Lunn was the highest-ranked North American DH rider on the World Cup circuit.

More recently, Lunn focused his attention on freeriding and drew a huge following and fanfare for viral videos on YouTube featuring his talent for extreme mountain biking stunts and tricks, including a 65-feet high, 80 degree vertical drop down the trunk of Douglas Fir tree on Vancouver Island.

Lunn was not only adored as a rider but also as a coach, trail builder, and a beloved part of the community in which he lived.

“Jordie lost his life doing exactly what he loved,” said his family in a statement published on Pinkbike.

Jordie will be missed. #longlivejordie
