Status of BC Cup p/b Cobotix Downhill Series

Following Cycling Canada’s earlier announcements on the cancellation of UCI downhill races at Silverstar, Fernie, Panorama and Kicking Horse, Cycling BC has come to the difficult decision to cancel the entire 2020 BC Cup p/b Cobotix DH series.

Under ViaSport’s guidance toward a safe return to sport, we have remained optimistic that a modified BC Cup schedule would be possible. Since the onset of the pandemic, Cycling BC has maintained a dialogue with race organizers, host venues, and other stakeholders in an attempt to reschedule previously postponed races and maintain currently scheduled races which would be run under enhanced safety measures. However, it has become apparent that the logistical challenges and staffing pressures facing our mountain venues are too high to proceed with events of this scale. We will continue to work with our partners to investigate the feasibility of smaller, grassroots-level downhill races to serve local racers.

Since the announcement of BC’s transition into Phase 3 of its reopening plan, many resort municipalities are receiving unprecedented traffic through their bike parks and we encourage Cycling BC members to take this opportunity to explore new destinations in BC this summer to enjoy the amazing riding that BC has to offer. If you do plan to travel this summer, please follow Dr. Bonnie Henry’s Travel Manners:

  • Check before you go
  • Fewer faces in bigger spaces
  • If sick, stay home
  • Wash your hands
  • Keep a safe physical distance
  • Come prepared, bring supplies
  • Respect travel advisories

We would also like to remind you that the benefits of your 2020 Cycling BC membership remain intact, including 24/7 ride accident insurance as well as discounts on services and travel destinations throughout BC.
