Predator Ridge Provides Picturesque Setting for Latest Cycling BC Coaching Courses

On September 26th and 27th, Predator Ridge Resort hosted Cycling BC’s NCCP Basic Skills and Mountain Bike Skills & Tactics clinics in Vernon, BC. The course provided participants with a review of coaching theory and hands-on practice training on the local trails and the bright open spaces at Predator Ridge.

In an effort to make the in-person components of the NCCP coach training more accessible to aspiring coaches, Cycling BC’s Head of Coach Development, Ben Chaddock, has been busy travelling the province to deliver the courses where they are most demanded. “Last weekend was really special. We had a great group of participants including young riders who are planning to help coach at programs in the local area next year, as well as adults of all ages travelling from Golden, Penticton, and Vancouver,” said Chaddock. “We also had coaches from other sports including speed-skating, cross-country skiing, and a few PMBI Level 1 certified instructors. I love facilitating these courses and helping people combine their previous education with the material they are learning over the weekend to prepare for future coaching sessions.”

Most of the attendees had participated in NCCP courses in the past, or completed a youth club program, and were quick to pick up on the topics of the course and progress through the material over the two days. The weekend was capped off with more riding, more spectacular Okanagan views and, of course, a round of golf for Chaddock at one of Predator Ridge’s award-winning golf courses. “My swing wasn’t that pretty but the scenery sure made up for it!”

Cycling BC’s NCCP course schedule continues to offer courses throughout the season with Training Basics online and in-person courses taking place in Squamish, Burnaby and Victoria over the coming weekends. Please note that any pre-requisites listed for these courses will not be made mandatory until 2021.
