2021 Lazer Canadian Cyclocross Championships / Trek Bear Crossing Grand Prix UCI C2

October 6, 2021 – Langford, BC – The Wheelhouse Cycling Society is pleased to announce that registration is now open for participants to register for the 2021 Lazer Canadian Cyclocross Championships / Trek Bear Crossing Grand Prix UCI C2, which will be hosted by Ecoasis at Bear Mountain on November 26 – 28, 2021. “After a long 2-year absence, we are eager to bring back the Canadian Championships to the national cycling community and showcase what BC west-coast cyclocross has to offer.”, said Jon Watkin, Event Director. “Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Cyclocross has suffered like many other sports, and we are so excited to invite participants young and old to take part in what is truly a celebration of a return to sport.”

Ecoasis and the City of Langford will be hosting the Championships for the next 2 years, with the 2021 edition taking place at Bear Mountain and the 2022 event taking place at the Jordie Lunn Bike Park, which was opened to the public earlier this spring.

Ecoasis is very familiar to cycling, having hosted other high profile cycling events such as UCI Canada Cup and Enduro races at Bear Mountain. “Under the leadership of Jon Watkin and Cycling Canada we welcome riders from across the country once again to the Bear Mountain Resort Community,” said Dan Matthews, CEO and President of Ecoasis Developments LLP. “Cycling is an important pillar of sport in the City of Langford and our team at Ecoasis is honoured to work with the volunteers and professionals at Cycling Canada as we host this challenging and exciting event.”

“Langford is thrilled to be hosting the 2021 Lazer Canadian National Cyclocross Championships and Trek Bear Crossing Grand Prix CX UCI C2 events next month,” said Mayor Stew Young. “Council remains committed to expanding recreation and biking opportunities in our community and will continue to work with the local biking community to bring more events to Langford at Bear Mountain and the newly opened Jordie Lunn Bike Park.”

The event is expected to draw over 500 participants nationwide and attract cyclocross enthusiasts from all ages and abilities. It will also bring much needed economic impact to the Greater Victoria Area.

The action-packed weekend begins on the afternoon of Friday, November 26, where riders will have access to the course for training and the opportunity to take part in hosted skills camps by local coaches. Later in the evening, the course will feature a novel single speed cyclocross night race hosted by Victoria’s Premier bike shop, Broad Street Cycles.

The Lazer Canadian Cyclocross Championships are the focus of the weekend and begin on Saturday, November 27 with Challenge races for youth and Sportif categories. The highlight events are the Championship races for Junior, U23, Masters, and Elite categories.

On Sunday, November 28, racing continues with the Trek Bear Crossing Grand Prix CX UCI C2 event that invites international Elite / Junior participants to race with their Canadian counterparts and attempt to gain valuable UCI World Ranking Points. It also gives Masters racers the opportunity to extend their weekend of racing and also gain National Ranking points that will count into the 2022 National Cyclocross Championships.

During the weekend, a dedicated “Kids Cross” event will offer some fun guided activities to kids from ages 4-12. These will be led by The Cycling Co in partnership with Westshore Bikes.
