Loeffelholz Awarded Coach of the Year & Achieves NCCP CE Status

Hans Loeffelholz

Cycling BC is proud to acknowledge Hans Loeffelholz as the recipient of the 2021 Cycling BC Community Award for Coach of the Year. Hans also recently achieved NCCP Coach Evaluator certification and is now one of only nine cycling coach evaluators in Canada.

Hans joined the Cycling BC community in 2016 after moving from Ontario. His passion for cycling started at a young age when he participated and raced at cycling facilities like the Windell Cycling Centre (velodrome) and the famed Montreal Olympic Oval. Since moving to British Columbia, Hans has made meaningful contributions to the coaching community as an instructor, trainer,  mentor, and manager.

In 2016, Hans helped Cycling BC’s iRide youth cycling program by delivering the program at Vancouver schools and facilitating summer camps. With his experience and professional skills, Hans helped Cycling BC formulate the first iteration of the iRide curriculum. In 2018, Hans took on a leadership role with the Burnaby Velodrome Club as the club’s president. He has since helped create new processes and programs at the club that have allowed the BVC to grow in membership and programming capacity.

In the past two years, Hans has continued his professional development as a cycling coach and achieved both NCCP Competition-Introduction (Club Head) coach certification and the NCCP Coach Evaluator (CE) certification. The latter is a special designation that permits Hans to evaluate club coach portfolios and conduct summative debriefs, helping coaches-in-training demonstrate their understanding of coaching principles and how to apply them. Conducting debriefs and evaluations require unique traits and we wish to commend Hans for his pursuit of excellence throughout his CE training and certification.

Hans’ learner-centred approach helped three coaches from different regional and cycle-sport backgrounds achieve NCCP Club Head coach certification over the past six months. Hans received fantastic feedback from one of those new coaches and we are sharing it with you below to demonstrate the nature of these NCCP evaluations and the qualities team members, like Hans, bring to the experience.

I truly enjoyed and benefitted from the experience, as you were very positive, informative and very easy to work with.  I was very anxious prior to our meeting as the idea of any type of evaluation can send me to a bit of a nervous state, but you definitely made the experience the mere opposite of what I was expecting. Your questions were very reflective and helped me gain a much deeper insight on my portfolio especially regarding my Skills and Tactical Plans.  As well, your recommendations of ways I can continue growing in 2022 were very informative and encouraging. Your manner of speaking and hosting of the evaluation helped me feel comfortable.  I immediatley felt like I was speaking to a very knowledgeable and passionate subject matter expert, whose goal and interest was sincerely for my betterment as a coach. I look forward to working with you in the future in the local cycling circles. Again sincerely thanks – Anselmo.

Congratulations, Hans! Thank you for your commitment to the sports community.
