Cycling BC Interim Board Director Announcement

After Cycling BC board member Andrea Wooles made the decision to step down from the board in the fall of 2021—a move to avoid any potential professional conflict arising from her new role as Safe Sport Manager with viaSport BC—the Cycling BC board of directors looked to fill the vacant Cycling BC board position with an interim director.

Cycling BC’s By-laws (Section 4.08) state that when the position of a Director becomes vacant for whatever reason and there is still a quorum of a minimum of four Directors, the Board may appoint a qualified individual to fill the vacancy for a term expiring not later than the close of the next Annual General Meeting. The total number of Directors so appointed may not exceed one-third of the total number of Directors.

The Cycling BC board of directors would like to announce that former board nominee, Darlington Tambo of Vancouver, BC, has been appointed as an interim board member, effective immediately. Tambo is a recreational cyclist, a member of the Gastown Cycling Club, and has served on the past boards of BC211 and the Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation. Tambo has an Executive MBA and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.

“This new appointment adds another valuable voice to our board,” says Erin Waugh, CEO of Cycling BC. “His sound financial management skills and open-minded but practical approach to strategic planning complements our existing board’s skill set very well. We hope to take full advantage of this in the short term.”

As per Cycling BC’s By-laws noted above, Tambo’s interim appointment to the board will last only until the close of the next Cycling BC Annual General Meeting, at which time new board directors will be elected to serve a full term of three years on the board.

The Cycling BC Annual General Meeting will be held online for current members of the society this June 2022—the exact date is yet to be determined.
