This year’s BMX Provincial Championships represented high quality, competitive racing with BC’s top BMX athletes that competed for the BC Provincial Champion jersey. The 2022 Provincial Championships was hosted by Ridge Meadows BMX as an age-based championship event in Pitt Meadows on Saturday, May 28th.  It was a great day for racing with clear blue skies and the track was abuzz with excitement as over one hundred racers and their families hung out to enjoy the race-day festivities.

The day started with riders getting some early practice runs in before the motos were posted signalling that everyone should head out to the start gate. The track was well-groomed and ready for the racers to take on the various jumps and rollers leading to the finish line. The course catered to all age categories and skill levels and it was truly an all-ages event with race categories ranging from ages 5-6 year-olds to the oldest category of 50+ Male and Cruiser 40+ Women. No matter the age, everyone had their eyes on the finish line hoping for a chance to get on the podium.

Pitt Meadows’ very own Alex Tougas was back to his winning ways and placed 1st in the Junior/Elite 17+ Male category to take the BC Provincial Champion’s jersey. Jacob Shaw from Kelowna placed 2nd and Holden Dipiazza of North Delta came in 3rd. Alex has been on Cycling BC’s high-performance BMX for several years and proved that he is back to his A-Game and podium-reaching performances.  Another Cycling BC high-performance athlete, Zoe Mchale-Boulter, displayed amazing effort and skill on the track just missing the podium in 4th place.
