DESCRIPTION:Performance Theory\nThis module is officially titled: NCCP Competition Development Performance Cycling Workshop in the Coaches Association of Canada LOCKER system. \nCycling BC members 18 years and older may participate in the 80-hour Performance Coach (Comp-Dev) pathway\, including this Performance Theory workshop facilitated by Cycling Canada. \nThe Performance Coach pathway is for leaders who support and lead provincial or national team projects and manage Cycling Canada Trade Teams or international elite-amateur teams. The module helps you prepare to lead practices and events for participants in the “Train to Compete” and “Train to Win” stages of the Long Term Athlete Development Model. \nParticipants work through various individual and small group activities to discuss advanced sport-specific skills\, develop healthy travel habits\, and reinforce the importance of team building\, work/life balance\, and goal-oriented preparation. \nThe module is facilitated online over 6 x 3-hour sessions. Participants are expected to attend and actively participate in each session. Please ensure that your video and microphone are working well and that you have completed the pre-event homework (included in your registration confirmation email). Participants who miss a session can watch the recording but must submit their assignment before the next session. \nThis particular event is organized and facilitated by Cycling Canada. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nThis course will train coaches who would like to work with their local cycling club and riders in the LTAD Learn to Train and Train to Train phase. \nTraining to Race\nDuring this 14-hour in-class workshop\, you will gain valuable tools to support your athletes as they prepare for cycling competitions including training techniques\, season planning\, mental preparation and more. \nThe Ready to Race! coaching stream is structured as follows: Learn More\nReady to Race! Introduction to Competition (R2R) is the context for coaches who will primarily work with new competitive cyclists at the community and club level. These athletes will likely be in the Learn to Train to Train to Train stages of LTAD\, although the context could apply to any new racer of any age. These athletes have basic but developed cycling skills and the desire to begin competing within a structured training and competition program. SUMMARY:Coach Development Webinar: Endurance Training & Determinants of Endurance
DESCRIPTION:This professional development webinar for coaches is being offered by Cycling Canada. \nThe webinar will be led by Louis Passfield. Passfield is the Head of the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Kent\, and has a 25-year track record of applied work in cycling. Louis’ expertise is in training\, high performance and applied sports science. He has worked as lead sports scientist with the highly successful British Cycling team preparing for a number of major events including 1992 Barcelona\, 1996 Atlanta\, and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Over this time Louis has been part of several gold medal teams and has worked with many of Britain’s most successful riders and coaches. Louis has also coached Olympic\, World Championship and Commonwealth Games cyclists\, including the Great Britain team pursuit and England team time-trial teams.

DESCRIPTION:Cycling Canada will be holding an English and French coach webinar about Nutrition.  The English webinar will be Wednesday April 8th\, and the French webinar will be Tuesday April 7th\, at 5:30 pm EST. \nNutrition (English) with Christine Dziedzic \nThis webinar will cover the concept of nutrition periodization for the yearly training plan\, using track cyclingas a practical example. We will review topics such as nutrient requirements for different training phases and the principles of recovery nutrition. Other focuses will include nutrition strategies to boost the immune system\, as well as exploring the place of supplements in an athlete’s ever-evolving nutrition plan. \nChristine Dziedzic is a Registered Dietitian and Advanced Sports Dietitian (Sports Dietitians Australia)\, and has worked in high performance sport for more than six years. Christine has recently relocated from the Australian Institute of Sport\, where she worked as a Sports Dietitian for a number of national teams\, and included a support role at the Olympic Games in London\, 2012. Her current position involves delivering best-practice performance nutrition services to several CyclingCanada programs\, as well as Rowing Canada and Canoe/Kayak Canada and Ontario. (Field Management-Clinical Management)\n\nSpeakers: Jenn Turner and Tara Lazarski\n\nTara Lazarski graduated from McMaster University with a Hons. Bachelor of Kinesiology and Masters of Science in Physiotherapy. She has completed her post graduate Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy and has advanced education in Manual therapy\, acupuncture\, and Retul motion analysis bike fitting. She began working in the cycling industry 12 years ago and currently travels with and is the IST lead with  the National Mountain Bike Team. When not on the road with the team\, she is the Owner/Director of Physiotherapy at Catalyst Kinetics in Vancouver\, BC.\nDr. Jenn Turner completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education at Brock University in St. Catharine’s\, Ontario. After graduating\, she continued her education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic. Dr. Turner is currently a resident in the Chiropractic Sports Sciences fellowship program in Vancouver\, studying under some of the best clinicians and doctors in order to be a sports specialist herself. Jenn is a fully certified Active Release Techniques © practitioner as well as being trained in Graston Techniques ®.  Her expertise as a chiropractor has taken Jenn around the world with her job with Cycling Canada.  Her career highlight occurred the summer as she worked at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Jenn has been working with Cycling Canada during the past 8 years in the Track\, Road and BMX programs and was proud to see some of her athletes win a bronze medal at these Games. Jenn owns two clinics: Moveo Sport & Rehabilitation Centre\, in North Vancouver\, and Optimum Sport Performance & Health Centre in Chilliwack\, both multi-disciplinary clinics that target the active population that is so common to BC.

DESCRIPTION:Cycling Canada will be holding a coach webinar Thursday December 18th at 7:30pm Eastern time.  Please see details below. \nSpeaker: Derek M. Hansen\nDerek M. Hansen is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and Sport Performance Consultant.  He currently works at Simon Fraser University as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for NCAA Division 2 athletes.  He has also worked closely with numerous national sport organizations in the area of Strength and Conditioning and athlete performance including Speed Skating Canada\, Cycling Canada\, Softball Canada\, Field Hockey Canada and Bobsleigh-Skeleton Canada.  He also provides expertise in the area of strategic planning\, speed development\, rehabilitation and performance team integration for professional teams in the NFL and collegiate teams in the NCAA.  Derek has also been a course conductor within the NCCP system for 14 years\, specializing in Strength and Conditioning\, Recovery\, Injury Prevention and Biomechanics. \nTopic: Strength and Conditioning\nDerek’s webinar will focus on the integration of strength and conditioning elements for cyclists.  While there are many ways to make athletes stronger\, it is imperative to ensure that any work done on the strength and conditioning side transfers to an athlete’s performance on the bicycle.  There can be many downsides to an overzealous approach to strengthening\, including accumulation of non-functional muscle mass\, increases in muscle tension that obstruct desired neuromuscular coordination and the utilization of energy that could be put to better use on the bicycle.  We will examine a variety of approaches that coaches can adopt and integrate to ensure their cycling athletes are improving their sport-specific performance. \nHow to register:\nIf you would like to participate in this workshop\, please email elizabeth.kiraly@cyclingcanada.ca for details on how to connect.  If you would like to receive NCCP Professional Development Points\, please include your NCCP#.
