As the 2025 MTB/DH race season kicks into gear, we have some important updates and reminders for all athletes participating in the BC Cup and Canada Cup Mountain Bike Series. From ensuring your UCI licence is up to date to a significant venue change for an upcoming Canada Cup / BC Cup DH race, and BC Cup points calculations, it’s essential to stay informed. Additionally, don’t miss the exciting news about the SilverStar Downhill race.

UCI Licence Check Reminder for BC Cup and Canada Cup MTB Series

With one BC Cup race in the books and the first Canada Cup Mountain Bike Series race taking place this weekend in Sherbrooke, QC, we wanted to send a reminder to ensure all participating athletes have the correct UCI Code on their license (eg. “Expert” instead of “Sport”) to avoid any on-site delays.

To better understand race category codes and how to read what’s on your licence, download our How-to-read-your-licence handbook.

Important Update to the July 20th Canada Cup / BC Cup DH Race – Venue Change

The Canada Cup / BC Cup race originally scheduled for the weekend of July 18-20, 2025, at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort will now be held at Sun Peaks Bike Park near Kamloops, BC, on the same dates. The event is being relocated due to uncertainty surrounding the completion of the gondola chair investigation and repairs at Kicking Horse Mountain, following an incident earlier this year when a gondola cabin detached from the cable. The uncertainty about when it will be operational again has led the organizer to move the event to Sun Peaks.

If you have already registered for the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort event, your registration will automatically transfer to the Sun Peaks Canada Cup. However, we understand that the venue change might impact your ability to participate. The organizer is committed to ensuring a smooth process for those who need to withdraw. To request a full refund, please submit your request by emailing stephenexley@shaw.ca before June 30th.

Silverstar Downhill Race, August 1-4, is part of the Canada Cup, UCI Continental Cup, and BC Cup.

We’re pleased to confirm that the SilverStar Downhill race, taking place from August 1-4, 2025, during the Crankworx Summer Series, is officially recognized as a Canada Cup, UCI Continental Cup, and BC Cup race. We understand that there was some uncertainty earlier this year, but rest assured, this event is part of the BC Cup series. Athlete information and registration are now available at https://www.crankworx.com/crankworx-summer-series/silverstar.

2025 BC Cup DH Series – Update to Overall Series Points Calculation

The 2025 BC Cup Downhill Series includes eight races at some of BC’s most majestic mountain biking destinations. Participants will have the chance to accumulate points from each race, based on their overall finish position in their category, and at the end of the season, the rider with the most points is crowned the overall BC Cup winner. This year, to provide more flexibility, as well as to broaden competitiveness for the overall series title, riders will count their best five races towards their overall series points total. Thus, riders who participate in all eight races will have the option to drop their lowest three results. Previously, riders were only allowed to drop one of their lowest results. The new structure still demands that riders have strong performances in at least five races while offering allowances for injuries, illness, or other factors that could lead to a suboptimal race. We look forward to seeing who will take the BC Cup this season. The series’ overall standings will be hosted and posted on the Roots & Rain website.
