The Abbotsford Indoor BMX track was the place to be this past weekend as Cycling held several BMX camps targeting first time riders, development athletes and young adults and parents.
The weekend started off on Friday evening with Cycling BC’s first Male Adult BMX Development camp.
The camp saw 14 athletes of varying abilities test their skills out on the track in fun and relaxed environment.
The group worked on their bike handling skills and tightening their BMX racing skills around the track. Once the training and riding was over, the athletes hung out sharing their riding and racing experience while getting to know each other.
The second selection camp for Project 13:NZ was held on Saturday afternoon. This project was put into place to help develop and support a selected group of athletes’ train and travel to the 2013 UCI BMX World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand
Athletes’ skills were tested and evaluated while training on the track. Selected athletes will continue training and towards the UCI World championships in Auckland, NZ in July.
Finally Super Bowl Sunday wouldn’t have been complete without a Super Youth Development Camp for U12 athletes. The young athletes worked on building their skills through several fun activities such as:
- Bunny hopping and jumping over a pylons and a high bar and
- Passing in the corner cutting each other off on the first straight.
These camps saw over 50 young riders train and improve their bike handling and racing skill. The next Youth Development Camp is scheduled to take place on May 5th.
Special thanks to Adam Muys, Trevor Brown, Darien Landers, Bailey Mchale-Boulter and Mischa Partridge for helping at the camps this past weekend.
