Thinking of racing but unsure where to start? This one-day downhill workshop is an introduction to racing targeted at intermediate to advanced riders who are interested in entering the racing community. Participants will have the opportunity to run through a day in the life of racing, learning how to assess course conditions, explore line options, work through features and technical course sections with guidance. This coached session will enable racers to consolidate and refine their skills while building confidence in their ability to successfully navigate a BC Cup racecourse. The workshop will allow for repetition and feedback which will enable riders to test themselves in a safe, low-pressure environment so that riders can reflect on how line choice and preparation affect the outcome of each run.

This workshop is open to riders aged 11 to 22 (born 1999 to 2010) who are comfortable riding sustained descents on black diamond trails. This workshop is designed for new racers and riders with minimal race experience.

The workshop registration fee does not include:

  • Park pass*
  • Meals
  • Equipment rentals
  • Insurance (all participants are required to be Cycling BC members or purchase a single event membership)

*Note that it is recommended that tickets are pre-purchased with completed Resort waivers.

About the Coach

Arden Greanya has been an avid mountain biker since arriving in Calgary in 1998. Arden began racing XC in 2003 and entered the DH race scene in 2011. This lead to the creation of Drift Racing, a youth training program focused on developing successful athletes on and off the racecourse. As a coach, Arden’s main focus is to support the development of the skills needed for all aspects of competition and athlete development, from navigating the course to understanding key components of health and mental well-being.

“I believe in a measured approach to progression that builds a rider’s confidence through knowledge, experience, consistency and I consider it a great tribute to my coaching that I have, to date, been outpaced by most of the athletes that I have coached for multiple years! Several of these racers have qualified for world cup events.”
