Event Information

This course will train coaches who would like to work with their local cycling club or with Cycling BC’s iRide program.

Let’s Ride! Community Cycling Initiation (CCI) is the NCCP context for coaches who will primarily work with novice, pre-competitive cyclists at the community level, including participants in the Active Start, FUNdamentals and early Learn to Train stages of athlete development (outlined in Cycling Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Model). The program is simple, based on a number of pre-designed lesson plans, and adaptable to the varying skill and ability levels of participants. The focus of the program is on having participants develop skills that are basic to MTB, BMX, and Road, in a controlled, off-road, off-trail setting such as a sport field or parking lot.

The training required to become a Community Coach is participation in two NCCP workshops: the Community Coach “Let’s Ride”, and the Basic Cycling Skills session, which includes practical training. These workshops have been combined into a full training event.

The Let’s Ride! Community Cycling Initiation stream is structured as follows:

In Training
Let’s Ride! Community Cycling Initiation

Ideal for parents, volunteers, teachers and others who occasionally work with youth or adults new to cycling, this one day, in-class workshop covers the basic principles of coaching including ethical decision making, planning and organizing a practice, cycling safety and risk management, and introducing disabled riders to the sport.

Trained
Basic Cycling Skills

This workshop trains coaches on the instruction of basic cycling skills. Workshop material covers skill analysis, observation, and corrective feedback – all vital skills for coaches of both new and experienced cyclists looking to improve

The cost of this course is $85/participant

Learning Facilitator: Ben Chaddock
