Cycling BC expects HopOn instructors are either paid or receive other perks from your club to compensate their time and energy. In our experience, organizations that rely on volunteer instructors often fizzle after 2-3 years.

Participant Ability(Required)

Review the HopOn Skill levels (cyclingbc.net/hoponlevels) to help you choose the right skill level. Please note, parents will be conducting a self-assessment of their child using the same resources before registering their child. At minimum, choose 1 skill level per instructor. This means that if you have 2 instructors, you can either focus on a specific level, or if the instructors are ready to work on their own, you can create a split-level program (ie: Level 2-3) whereby a skill assessment takes place and the riders are split into two groups during the first session and/or modified accordingly through the remaining sessions. To select multiple levels, please hold "ctrl" during selection.

What age range are you planning to instruct? Although SKILL LEVEL is paramount, choose a age range that compliments the HopOn Levels (cyclingbc.net/hoponlevels) and matches your expertise. To select multiple levels, please hold "ctrl" during selection.

Participant Max. Numbers(Required)

What is the maximum number of participants in this program? Must be less than 50 participants. Please recall, a 1:6 instructor/participant ratio is required when riding in trails, and a 1:10 ratio is permitted for programs that stay on grass fields. Please build continencies into your ratios to avoid program cancellations or rescheduling if an instructor becomes unavailable at the last moment.

How many sessions will take place in this program? (Max. 6 sessions). We RECOMMEND one session per week for 6 weeks.

Program Cost(Required)

How much will the total program cost each participant? We RECOMMEND $7-$10/hour of instruction however as of 2024 no price restrictions are in effect. Please note, participants must purchase a $25 HopOn Membership (annual from Jan 1 - Dec 31) and any family in-need can apply for up to $400/yr in KidSport funding.

Drop-In?(Required)

Are you permitting drop-in registration? This will increase the administrative burden on your instructors whereby they will need to check registration and download the Emergency Action Plan report each week. Drop-in is best suited for once-a-week community programs during summer holidays.

HopOn Agreement

This section helps ensure all HopOn Applicants are aware of our expectations.

Cycling BC Affiliation(Required)

As of 2024, all HopOn programs must be facilitated by a Cycling BC affiliated organization. If you have not already affiliated, visit cyclingbc.net/affiliate-reg and select Provincial Club.

Annual Report(Required)

For RETURNING programs, have all reporting requirements been completed for last season? Post-program reports are due within 14 days of program completion and no later than November 1st. Reports must be submitted to continue remain in-good-standing with Cycling BC's HopOn program.

HopOn Delivery Partner Agreeement:(Required)

Successful applicants are bound by Cycling BC's code of conduct, and maintain Cycling BC membership in-good-standing throughout the duration of this process.

Recipients can begin their HopOn instructor education and annual registration by creating a free account at cyclingbc.net/edu.

Once approved, NEW INSTRUCTORS will receive how-to-register information for the various education modules, including the HopOn eLearning module. Please ensure they visit cyclingbc.net/buymembership to purchase a regular Cycling BC membership (ie: Cycling For All) and also create a free education account at cyclingbc.net/edu so they can track their progress. Once instructors have acheived the ORANGE HopOn instructor certificate, they can upgrade to a Technical License.

For STANDARD programs, Cycling BC will help setup a registration system through Interpodia's CCNBIKES platform. All funds will be received and dispersed by your club. All advertising materials designed by your club must uphold the HopOn brand guidelines.

For SPECIAL programs, Cycling BC will setup registration, webpages, and social-media-ready advertising content. Program revenue is paid out once we recieve your post-event report
which includes a detailed 2-paragraph letter outlining lessons learned, accompanied by 5-10 photos and an invoice for the total program.

Special Provisions:

1) If you do not show up for the designated training, your program will be cancelled and may impact your ability to apply for HopOn grants in the future.

2) For SPECIAL applicants, if you attend the training and receive a backpack yet fail to deliver a 6-week program within 12 months, you will be required to return the backpack as you received it or pay a $300 replacement fee.
