Canadian junior rider Lucas Zhou delivered a thrilling performance at the 2025 UCI BMX Racing World Championships, claiming bronze in the Junior Men’s final on Sunday, August 3rd, in Copenhagen.
Zhou, who hails from Surrey, British Columbia, advanced through the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds in tight battles, qualifying “on the bubble” in both heats. In the high-stakes final, Zhou launched a remarkable comeback, climbing from eighth place out of the gate to cross the line in third, securing Canada’s only medal in the Championship races.
Zhou says, “I’m super honoured to have placed bronze, racing against some of the fastest Junior Elite riders in the world. It was an amazing experience and I’m proud to represent our country on the podium.”
We’re excited to share that nine-year-old Autumn Zambo from North Vancouver also earned a fantastic third-place bronze in the Girls 9 Challenge races, which took place earlier in the week! Way to go, Autumn!
The event drew the world’s top BMX racers across the world. Zhou’s and Zambo’s results highlight a strong showing from Canada’s next generation of BMX talent.

Canada’s riders battled through intense international fields on a fast and technical Copenhagen track, gaining valuable experience and exposure on the global stage. The remaining team members, which includes Abygale Reeve, Alexis Rhéaume, Curtis Krey, Daisy Kettle, Dylan Tremel, Ryan Tougas, Thessalie Bruneau, Thomas Jodoin, and Victoria Dubé, competed in the qualification rounds but did not advance to the final stages.
“Lucas’s performance shows the depth of talent we have coming up in BMX,” said Adam Muys, National Team BMX Coach. “The entire team showed grit and determination against the world’s best.”
