WHAT OUR BOARD NEEDS

Cycling BC recognizes that a variety of perspectives, experiences and backgrounds strengthen our organization and help us better serve all members. As we seek a new and diverse mix of skills, attributes, and experiences, the Cycling BC board welcomes candidates who possess skills from any of the identified areas in our wheel (see image to the left/above).

After revisiting its skills matrix to help identify gaps and enhance the current expertise of our board, experience in the following areas would be highly valued:

  • Law
  • Fundraising
  • Sponsorship
  • Event organizing
  • Safesport, including investigations
  • General experience in board governance and collaboration is also useful

EXPERIENCE IN CYCLING AND VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS.

I have been involved in a number of cycling and volunteer community organizations over many years, but my most important experience for this nomination is my current work as a Director of Cycling BC - I am hoping to be re-elected to that position. I believe that I have contributed usefully in that role generally during my first term, and I believe that my work focusing on governance, legal, investigation, SafeSport, and human resources matters has been particularly productive. I have also been the President of Glotman Simpson Cycling Club.

ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE

In addition to my current work as a Director of Cycling BC, I have been responsible for managing law firms in various ways - most importantly, as a member of the Executive Committee of a mid-sized law firm, and then as the founder and principal of my own small, boutique law firm. I have also managed continuing legal education conferences and the delivery of courses at UBC Law School (Allard Hall).

HOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO CYCLING BC’s DEVELOPMENT?

I hope to continue to apply my extensive experience and expertise to governance, legal, investigation, SafeSport, and human resources matters.

EXPERIENCE AREAS (as per Cycling BC Wheel):

  • Board Experience
  • Governance
  • Policy
  • Mediation/Adjudication
  • Human Resources
  • Risk Management
  • Organizational Development
  • Legal
