The 2021 BC Downhill Mountain Bike Championships & the third BC Cup race of the season will take place this weekend, Aug 6-8, at Big White Resort in Kelowna, BC.

WILDFIRE CONCERNS: The health and safety of racers, officials, staff and volunteers are of the utmost importance. As wildfire smoke remains a constant concern in the Central Okanagan we will continue to monitor the situation and choose whether it is necessary to postpone or modify the event based on the information available to us at the time of the race.

Air quality is difficult to forecast and most reading locations are not situated near, or at the same elevation as where racing is taking place. Big White Resort is at 1700m and the top of the racecourse is over 2000m. At these elevations, the levels of smoke in the alpine are far less than what the valley has experienced over the last few days. We are hopeful that cooler temperatures, change of wind direction, and the chance of showers that we see forecasted for Big White will result in clear skies. There is no guarantee that any new fires won’t further impact the area but the current situation would allow us to run the race without safety concerns.

We’re looking forward to crowning the first BC Downhill Provincial Champions since 2019.

Registration is still open until Thursday, August 5th.
