Cycling BC acknowledges and appreciates the time, effort, and commitment that riders, families, coaches, teams, commissaires, organizers, and volunteers put into the BC Cup season. We recognize the uncertainty surrounding the wildfire situation has created additional challenges, and our goal is to provide clarity, fairness and consistency.
The 2026 BC Cup Downhill Series was originally set up with 8 races on the schedule that qualify for BC Cup points, with riders’ best 5 results counting towards their total series points; If they raced in all 8 races, their three lowest results could be dropped.
With the current Provincial State of Emergency and evolving wildfire conditions across British Columbia, understandably there is some uncertainty around the remaining BC Cup schedule following the cancellation of the BC Cup/Canada Cup at SilverStar finals on August 9, due to poor air quality.
As of August 14, 2026:
- Completed: BC Cup Races #1-4 (Whistler, Fernie, Kicking Horse, Sun Peaks) are complete and count for BC Cup points as normal.
- BC Cup Race #5 at SilverStar was only partially completed, with only U17 Expert, Junior Expert, and Elite completing seeding runs. While seeding runs don’t normally count towards BC Cup points, because final runs were cancelled at SilverStar, the seeding runs will be used as final results for those categories. The other categories that did not have a seeding run will have no Race 5 result.
Remaining: With three more BC Cup races coming up on the schedule (Big White, Steve Smith Memorial at Mt.Washington, Red Mountain), and the ever-changing wildfire situation across the province, the safety of event participants, including volunteers, coaches, commissaires, organizers, athletes, and families, remains the top priority.
Under these exceptional circumstances, Cycling BC is adjusting the 2026 BC Cup series points structure to preserve the integrity of the series and ensure riders are not advantaged or disadvantaged by circumstances beyond their control.
For 2026, the number of results that count toward the overall title will be determined based on the number of BC Cup races available.
For example, if the BC Cup season includes 8 or 7 races, a rider’s best 5 results will count toward the overall BC Cup standings. If there are only 6 or 5 races, the best 4 results will count.
8 races – best 5 results count
7 races – best 5 results count
6 races – best 4 results count
5 races – best 4 results count
