The 2026 Canadian BMX Racing Championships took place in St. Albert, Alberta, on August 29th, and we couldn’t be more proud of our BC athletes and coaches. We are grateful for the BMX community that came together for this incredible event.
A Team Effort From The Start
This year’s Championships were extra special because of something new: a collaboration between Cycling BC and the BC BMX development group. Together, we teamed up to support six athletes as part of the provincial team project. We were also thrilled to connect with and support the additional BC riders who made the trip with their families and clubs. The spirit of our BMX community was on full display at nationals.
Growing Confidence
The project wasn’t just about race results; it was also about growth and development. Our athletes showed up ready to learn, push themselves, and take on new challenges. Several riders tackled the SX hill and pro set head-on, and conquered it. This was a big step forward and a great example of the development we saw over the course of the weekend.
Race day threw us a bit of a curveball with some challenging weather conditions, which meant some of our athletes didn’t get the full pro set experience in competition, but there were still some terrific performances and results across the BC contingent. The adaptability our riders showed, even when conditions weren’t cooperating, says everything about the group we brought together for this project.
Building Community
If there’s one thing we took away from St. Albert, it’s that this project was about so much more than results. Bringing Cycling BC and BC BMX together at the national level gave us a chance to:
- Support our athletes at the highest level of Canadian BMX racing
- Strengthen connections within the BMX community across the province
- Lay the groundwork for future partnerships and development opportunities
And this is just the beginning. The connections made between organizations, coaches, athletes and their peers are the kind that will fuel long-term growth for BMX in BC.
Looking Ahead
The squad came home from St. Albert tired, inspired, and already thinking about what’s next. There’s so much to be excited about as we look at how we can keep growing this partnership between Cycling BC and BC BMX, and how we can create even more development opportunities for BC athletes in the future.
To the athletes, coaches, parents and families who made the trip, and every club that sent riders—thank you. You represented BC well, and you made our BMX community proud.
