The Victoria Youth Cycling Experience (VYCE), initially scheduled for August 14 – 19, 2023, has been put on hold until 2024.

As an initiative of the Victoria HUB—a collaboration between Cycling Canada, Cycling BC, and 94Forward—VYCE’s aim is to bring together young riders who wish to improve their riding skills and provide them with development and racing opportunities at a week-long training camp on Vancouver Island.

The inaugural VYCE camp in 2022 attracted 30 young cyclists from BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, who were led and supported by top-tier coaches, athletes, and ambassadors from the cycling community through a series of educational sessions, skills clinics, and bike races during the camp.

The plan was to deliver a similar program again in 2023. However, with an increasing strain on resources to deliver the camp, sustainability and keeping the camp accessible for athletes and their families were becoming difficult to achieve—a longer-term vision was needed. Therefore, the Victoria HUB has made the tough decision to put a pause on the camp for this year in order to re-group and re-envision the event with sustainability and accessibility in mind for 2024 and beyond.

We look forward to re-launching VYCE again in 2024 and hope you will join us then.

If you have any questions or ideas to support the program, please feel free to contact the Victoria HUB Manager, C.J. Young at cj@cyclingbc.net.
