Sun Peaks Hosts Third Stop of BC Cup Series During the 10-day Yeah Bro! Bike Fest

Sun Peaks, BC (July 10, 2012) – Kamloops and area locals will compete with the best downhill mountain bike riders from across the country at Sun Peaks this weekend. The resort welcomes back the BC Cup Downhill Series, hosting the third stop of the summer.

With 300 to 400 competitors there are numerous local entries, but heavily favoured to win his category is Kamloops’ Full Boar rider Chayse Marshall. A coach at Sun Peaks, Marshall placed sixteenth in Canadian DH Mountain Bike Championships last weekend in Quebec and claimed fastest overall time at local races Unicorn Versus Narwhal and Race the Ranch earlier this season. Branden Ostoforoff, a Kamloops local who rides for Spoke N’ Motion, placed second in his category at Race the Ranch and is also expected to place well this weekend.

 

On the women’s side, Sun Peaks local Jaide Foster is coming off an injury season with a vengeance. She recently placed third in her category at Race the Ranch  and will surely pull out all the stops on her home course this weekend.

In addition to the main race event, the village will be hopping with the Double Rainbow Toonie Slalom and a Silvia film premiere on Friday evening and a DJ performance from Dom Koric at Masa’s Bar + Grill on Saturday. On Sunday, spectators are encouraged to check out the BC Cup action on the end section of the course which features berms, jumps and a challenging technical section and is easily observed from the base of the mountain. The day will end at Masa’s Bar + Grill once again with the Rocky Mountain Racer After Party and the Get Down Foot Down Challenge.

The weekend also kicks off the brand new Sun Peaks Yeah Bro! Bike Fest, a ten day festival offering theLevel 1 Professional Mountain Bike Instructor Course,Pumptrack Up the Jams competitions and food and drink specials. Friday, July 20 is a Ladies Day Bike clinic which runs weekly until August 4.The event culminates on July 21 and 22 with the return of cross country bike racing at Sun Peaks. The North Face Dirty Feet Bike Weekend features a mountain crit race & Cross Country Mountain Bike Marathon for 20km, 40km, or 60km.
