Endurance Camp: Day #1

The morning kicked off with some tasty breakfast burritos and a short introduction for what to expect for the weekend.

We headed out around 9:45am heading towards 9 mile hill, or Bonk Hill.  It was cool out, but that climb quickly warmed us up.  Things were a little slick, with patches of ice in some of the corners taking down (gently) a few of he DHers who were getting wild in the corners.  We had split into two groups and headed over the bridge to tackle some of the trails on Diamond head.  The groups were well matched and pace was great – we needed to be reminded a few times that we still had two more days!

We had planned for a hot tub before lunch to warm up – but things were much warmer by the time we finished up our ride.  Lunch was terrific – chilli, focaccia bread and fruit.  We had a short talk by Tony Routley from Whistler Cycling about how to be a champion.  He told us to always keep thinking on the trail – its not one thing that makes you a champ, but tons of little things, always look for ways to get an edge on your competition.

The afternoons ride we spent in Valley Cliffe doing loops, keeping the pace steady and looking for ways to get an edge!  There were some great climbs and some fun, fast descents.  The dirt was forgiving and the rocks were grippy!

We wrapped up the day as the sun was going down and things were getting cool and headed back to our base at Brennan Park.  We cooled down with some fresh carrot juice using an industrial juicer from Nesters Market and then hit the hot tub for a little recovery action.

We’re all looking forward to tomorrow, and a big thank you to all the people that make these camps possible!

 THANK YOU!
