Endurance Camp: Day #2

This morning we had a great presentation from Megan Toom on how to stay safe in the forest and how to deal with wildlife encounters – a lot of great information was taken from this!  We then headed up to Cliff and Rob’s corners to work on our cornering and our XCE starts.  The ground was a little spongey where the frost was thawing and some of the glare off the puddles made the corners a little extra challenging.

We had a goal setting workshop after lunch and a Q & A with Ricky Federau.  In the afternoon we got to ride with a past National Champ, Ricky Federau, who had tons of great tips to share with us all.  In the afternoon the Dher’s got in some solid laps of Cakewalk, Full Nelson, and lower Angry Midget, while the XCers did loops and laps of Legacy.  The late afternoon we spent time with Lindsay from Reach Physio.  Some of us learned that we have a ton of work to do to work on our flexibility!  We wrapped up the day with some fresh carrot juice and a hot tub!

So far the camp has been really great. We have done about eleven hours of mountain biking in two days. Today we had a talk in the morning about the do’s and don’t when encountering wildlife and did a ride where we worked on single track passing and getting whole shots. After lunch we went out for a very fast paced ride and came back for a team physio session. A highlight for me this camp is riding with Ricky Federau. Ricky is a very impressive bike rider and has helped me lots in my short career by sharing his bike knowledge. I would really like to thank Mike and Tara for putting this camp together. Everything has gone very smoothly and the training has been top notch. I would also like to thank the sponsors who funded this camp; your support is much appreciated.

Today was a pretty hard day on the bike with myself and several others feeling the effects of yesterday’s long ride. I spent most of the day yo-yoing behind the lead group and seriously contemplated dropping back. It was pretty fun though as we got to ride Full Nelson as well as Somewhere Over there. I was also able to win the gong-show Super-D in the morning which was pretty cool.  A big thanks to all the people and supporters that help make camps and experiences like this possible!
