MTB Cali Training Camp Update

The last few days have been thoroughly enthralling! Yesterday we enjoyed a zone 1 3-hour ride to recover and also flush the remaining lactic acid from our legs; from the hill climb sprints we endured the previous day. Developing my leg strength and re-attaining my cardiovascular fitness has been my number one target to achieve during the camp, in order to fully heal my broken tibia. I have continued to feel stronger and fitter as each and everyday has circulated! Today we did a body-weight workout and a stretch (key to a full healthy recovery). We also completed a thrilling and pleasurable enduro ride today! A big thanks to Cycling BC and all of its supporters for a remarkable mountain biking camp!

This week has been full of quality training and good times. Today we went down to the Fontana race course. I quite like the course. It is a bit old-school in the sense that there is one main climb and one decent but still has that new wave feel with the lap being short and some technical features. I am really glad that I came down to this camp, I think that the training and racing we are doing will be vital for the seasons success. Thank you to all the team staff and sponsors for making this happen.

Today we went to Fontana.  We’ve rode alot of new places this camp, and so far this is my favourite place . I managed to get in two laps of the course.  It’s nice we got to get a pre-ride in before the race weekend begins.  The course is a ton of fun and I’m looking forward to racing it.  The dry dessert heat is a lot different then the Alpine where we’re staying, the wildlife is a little different too.  Usually we see Blue Jays, but today we spooked a rattlesnake on the trail – it wasn’t too happy we were there.

Yesterday we rode some downhill trails near Silverwood lake, it was awesome to get some quality shuttles in! We ended up doing nine laps in total, the track was covered in rocky technical lines, fast flowy sections, rock doubles and drops, high speed technical corners and some loose steeps which made for some great training.  We wrapped up the day with some stretching and self reflection before heading out for dinner to celebrate Magnus’s 16th birthday.  Thank you to all the sponsors for supporting Cycling BC High Performance teams.
