The Hayman Classic Youth Stage Race has Criterium, Time Trial and Road Race stages. Each stage is a stand alone BC Provincial Championship event (for eligible riders).

Online registration is now open. Riders can register for individual events or for the entire stage race. Banquet tickets are also available online.

BC Championship Jersey and Podium

There will be a BC Championship jersey presented to the winner of each age category in the Criterium, Road Race and Time Trial. Medals will also be presented to the top 3 in each category for the 3 championship races.

Important

  • All athletes who have placed on the podium must attend the awards ceremonies. Failure to do so will result in a fine and loss of award (including prize money if applicable).

  • Riders who cannot attend the awards ceremony must advise the Chief Commissaire or the Technical Delegate with a valid reason. Reasons such as, “I have a ferry to catch” will not be accepted.

  • Riders must wear cycling apparel to the awards ceremony. Failure to do so will result in a fine and loss of award (including prize money).

  • As per UCI rule 9.1.046, riders shall appear on the podium in racing attire, wearing their team jerseys but bare-headed and without headband or sunglasses, until they leave the official ceremony enclosure. Failure to do so will result in a fine and loss of award (including prize money).

Hayman Classic GC

In addition to the BC Championships, there is an “open to all” General Classification (GC) for each category. Calculation of the GC is on lowest cumulative time from in each stage. In the event of a tie, the road race place will be used to break ties, and if a tie remains, then TT placing, followed by Criterium will be used (if required).

The GC is not a BC Championship event. The winner of the GC in each category will be awarded a custom winners jersey from Jakroo. All participants are eligible for Hayman Classic awards.

Junior and Youth Requirements

  • Junior gearing (7.93 metre rollout) is required in youth categories in all races sanctioned by Cycling BC. Rollout will be done prior to and following all youth races. This also applies to spare wheels in case of flat.

  • U19 categories will not be subject to bike and equipment restrictions. U19 riders can use Time Trial specific bikes. (Bikes must still conform to UCI rules and Cycling BC Junior gearing rules.)

  • U17 riders are required to use their standard road race bike (no TT-specific bikes allowed) for all Time Trials. Time trial helmets are not allowed. Wheels must be low-profile, non-carbon (may not exceed 40mm).

  • U17 riders may use clip-on aero bars for TT races.

  • U15 riders and under are required to use their standard road race bike (no TT-specific bikes allowed) for all Time Trials. Time Trial helmets and aero bars are not allowed. Wheels must be low-profile, non-carbon (may not exceed 40mm).

Races for Individuals, not Teams

In the spirit of fair play, the intention of these races is to allow all participants, whether on a club team or who race as an individual, to have an equal opportunity for success. It is highly recommended that all participants race as individuals, and club teams eliminate the use of team tactics for these events.

Doping Control

  • All races are conducted under UCI anti-doping regulations

  • It is the riders and team manager’s responsibility to know the rules

  • Doping control location will be clearly marked

To be eligible to win a BC Championship, the rider must be a resident of BC and hold a Cycling BC Provincial or a UCI race license.

If the winner of the race is not eligible to be the BC Champion, there will be 2 podiums for the race. The first one will recognize the top three finishing positions in the race. The second podium will recognize the top three BC residents and Cycling BC license holders.
