PoCo Grand Prix Kids Race

The Kids’ Race has become a highly recognized and anticipated element of BC Superweek, Canada’s largest professional road cycling series. On July 13, 2018 the PoCo Grand Prix features a Kids’ Race, sponsored by Norco Bicycles, for young riders between the ages of 3 and 12 years. The Kids’ Race is divided into 3 heats, with the 3 to 5 year olds racing, then the 6 – 8 year olds and the 9 to 12 year olds racing on the same 1.3 kilometre downtown track as the pros! Our 2017 event saw over 200 participants. Registration will go live on June 1, 2018 for our Kids’ Race! See below for registration details.

Kids under 2

Kids under 2 can also be a part of the race! Ride the Norco Bicycle Inflatable Race track. No registration required. Ride Free!

Eligible Age: 3 -12 Years

Race Times: 6:00 pm, 6:10 pm and 6:25 pm

Please Note: All participants must provide their own bikes and helmets. Helmets are mandatory.

Kids’ Race Day Information

Norco Bicycles Kids Race 3 to 5yr

Race Time: 6:00 pm
Check in Time: 5:30 pm
Check in Location: West side of PoCo Bowl
Bring: Bike and helmet

Parent Information:

  • Please allow for extra time to park off site and walk to McAllister Street. Click here for parking information and site maps.
  • Proceed to the parking lot on the West side of PoCo Bowl and look for signage with first letter of last name, e.g. A to F check in/out sign. (Check in at 5:30)
  • Once checked in please supervise your children in the lane by the race course until the start of the race
  • Children ride 100 meters on Shaughnessy street from Elgin to McAllister
  • Parents welcome to place children at start then move quickly to the end of the race steering clear of the middle of the course. Parents are responsible for their preschoolers (3-5yr olds) at all times.
  • After the race children will return to a supervised holding area in the lane where parents return to sign out their children, receive a race pin and snack from McDonalds Tygo

Norco Bicycles Kids Race 6 to 8yr

Race Time: 6:10 pm
Check in Time: 5:40 pm
Check in Location: West side of the PoCo Bowl
Bring: Bike and helmet

  • Children ride once around 1.3km circuit by a lead cyclist
  • For safety, parents may not participate on foot or on bike in the race

Norco Bicycles Kids Race 9 – 12yr

Check in Time: 5:55 pm
Check in Location: West side of the PoCo Bowl
Bring: Bike and helmet

  • Once checked in children please supervise your children in the lane course until the start of the race
  • Children ride twice around 1.3km circuit by a lead cyclist
  • For safety, parents may not participate on foot or on bike in the race
  • After the race children will return to a supervised holding area in the lane where parents return to sign out their children, receive a race pin and snack from McDonalds Tygo

Exit for all Children’s Races is at Veteran’s Square in front of City Hall.  After the race, children are asked to return to the Check in area, specific to their last name where parents sign out their children, receive a race pin and then show their pin to the McDonalds Booth to receive a snack from McDonalds Tygo
