Seeking greater confidence in your off-road cycling skills? Ready to surf the dirt this autumn?

This year, Cycling BC is offering 2 Learn-To-Ride CYCLOCROSS clinics designed for people who are new to cyclocross or who wish to take their skills to the next level. The clinics will be led by NCCP Certified Coach Ben Chaddock, Cycling BC’s Head of Coach Development and iRide Program Manager, and 3x National Canadian Cyclocross Champion, Michael van den Ham.

  • Aug 29: Corner & Brake
  • Sept  5: Terrain & Barriers

Each day includes a two-hour skills session in the morning (9:30 am – 11:30 am) and an optional group ride (12:30 pm – 2:30 pm) in the local area. Each instructor will work with a maximum of 10 riders. The clinic costs $40 dollars per day. Individuals in need can contact Cycling BC to access a discounted rate.

A Cycling BC membership is required to register for the clinics. A drop-handlebar Cyclocross Bike or Gravel Bike is also required. We have 1 medium-sized rental bike available. Email to inquire.  Flat pedals/sneakers are suggested for the skills session. No lunch or water is provided. Porta-potties are available on-site.

Learn-to-Ride 1

  • I am…
    • ​Beginner or Intermediate rider
    • 1+ years of cycling experience
    • 1st year joining a cycling club
    • Adult or youth club rider 12-19 yrs old
    • I can stand & coast, tap my head and/or signal while riding in a straight line.
  • I will learn to…
    • Consolidate fundamental cycling skills
    • Prepare for the “C” category (equivalent to Cat 4-5)

Learn-to-Ride 2:

  • I am…
    • Intermediate & Advanced
    • 2+ years of cycling experience
    • 1+ years of competitive experience
    • Adult or youth club rider 14-19 yrs old
    • I can lift the front wheel, roll off the sidewalk, change gears silently, stop-go without touching the ground
  • I will learn to…
    • Refine fundamental skills
    • Consolidate intermediate skills
    • Prepare for the “B” or “A” category (equivalent to Cat 2-3)

Cancellation/Refund Policy: If you need to cancel or reschedule a clinic, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. Refunds will be given for cancellations made up to 72 hours before the clinic. Cancellations less than 72 hours before the clinic cannot be refunded. You will not receive a refund if you do not show up for a clinic you have registered for, so please check your schedule before committing. Please email us at coaching@cyclingbc.net if you need to cancel. We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule clinics due to low attendance. If your clinic is cancelled, we will contact you via email. You will have the option to reschedule for a different class date, receive a credit, or get a full refund. Thank you for your understanding.
