Basic Skills

This module is officially titled: NCCP Ready to Race! Introduction to Competition Basic Cycling Skills in the Coaches Association of Canada LOCKER system but is included in both the Community and Comp-Intro context.

This outdoor skills module helps you practice teaching basic cycling skills for participants in the “Active Start”, “FUNdamentals”, “Learn to Train”, and “Train to Train” stages of the Long Term Athlete Development Model.

The module builds on the concepts covered in the pre-requisites and takes place at a local grass or gravel field. To pass the module, participants must prepare a lesson plan and be ready to teach two 10-minute skill sessions to other coaches in training. This activity is included in question 43 of the Community Coach Journal, or question 52 Club Coach Journal.

After completing this module and all remaining SafeSport pre-requisites, you may continue your training as an iRide Instructor or as Club Assistant Coach.

This particular event is organized and facilitated by Cycling BC.

Pre-Requisites:

  • Community Theory or Club Theory A

The pathway includes additional on-demand and facilitated SafeSport modules that are required to lead Cycling BC practices and clinics. However, only the Theory module of your choice are necessary to participate in this module.
