Canada Cup/BC Cup Venue Change – Important Update from the organizer…
“As some of you may know, there was an incident earlier this year at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (KHMR) where a gondola cabin detached from the cable. Fortunately, the cabin disconnected just after making the turn at the base of the resort, and no one was seriously injured. However, Transport Canada has yet to conclude its investigation, and the gondola remains closed. Based on current estimates, even if the investigation is resolved and repairs are completed, the gondola is unlikely to be operational before our scheduled Canada Cup event on July 20th weekend.
While KHMR does have the Catamount Chairlift available as an alternative, its use for an event of our size presents significant challenges. The lift is considerably slower than the gondola, and racers would still need to hike from the top of the chair to the course start. With over 300 racers expected, this setup would not allow for adequate practice time or meet the high standard of racer experience we are committed to delivering.
After extensive discussions with KHMR, Cycling Canada, and Cycling BC, I’ve made the decision to relocate this stop of the series from Kicking Horse Resort to – Sun Peaks Bike Park.
The positive news is that all event dates, details and the overall schedule remain unchanged — we’re simply moving the third stop of the series from Golden to Kamloops. The series will begin in Fernie, continue to Panorama, and then head to Sun Peaks, which will now host both the third Canada Cup stop and the Canadian National Championships.
One of the most common questions you may have is whether the courses will be the same for the back to back Sun Peaks events. The answer is no — each event will take place on a different course, ensuring unique experiences for the racers and no competitive advantage for those attending both events.
If you have already registered for the KHMR event, your registration will automatically transfer to the Sun Peaks Canada Cup as of May 24th at 10:00 AM mtn. If you are unable to attend due to the venue change, you may request a cancellation by emailing me before June 30, and I will issue a refund.
Both myself and everyone at KHMR regret that we won’t be hosting a Canada Cup in Golden this summer. However, we believe this is the best decision to maintain the quality of the racer experience and deliver the high-caliber event you’ve come to expect from the Dunbar Summer Series.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support!”
